Our party of four journeyed through towns outside if Surabaya visiting historic ancient sites of the Majapahit Kingdom. Graeme's explanations and keen knowledge of this history brings it alive before your eyes. We visited the stone carving center of Java, seeing men carve statues to be exported around the world. Next we visited a Musuem and after that a batik village, famous for its completed batik fabric. We bought a few sarongs at excellent prices for such fine quality. We were able to see all the steps in the batik process up close. We enjoyed a nice Javaese lunch at a hotel along the way and finally stopped at the glass bead village. Here we selected some beads that are hand crafted in the village. The choices and prices were very attractive.
The trip was wonderful and Graeme Steel had it all organized perfectly. His humor and knowledge of the area and language made the trip outstanding.
