We booked the Melia on the recommendation of our travel agent as the resort we wanted wasn’t available for the whole time we would be in Nusa Dua. We checked the reviews and all seemed good.

Overall, having stayed elsewhere in Nusa Dua beforehand, we’ve been very disappointed.

Specifically:

1. The Melia allows smoking both in rooms (balconies), restaurants, by the pool, in hallways and the beach loungers. A lot of guests smoke so if you are a non smoker it can be hard to avoid. If we’d known we def wouldn’t have stayed here.

2. Our room has a strange smell which hasn’t disappeared. It’s also very dark and a tad shabby (but spacious). As mentioned in another review, the bathroom has a small bath with a removeable shower head. Adequate but not luxurious.

3. Despite other reviews raving about the breakfast, we haven’t enjoyed it. There’s a lack of attention to detail for example, the fillings for the omelette are cut into big chunks so yesterday my husband had a mouth full of almost raw onion, the juices are cordial. It’s way better than we’d have at home but far from amazing.

4. There aren’t enough sun loungers for the number of guests at either the pool or beach. In the Melia’s defence I was impressed to see the staff policing chairs that have been “reserved” yesterday, but it still feels like sardines packed in a can.

5. We opted not to do the all inclusive which would have been US$72 (plus taxes and service fee of another 21%) per adult per day (and half that for kids). We’ve been eating at a few local places and this seemed super expensive to us, especially since breakfast was already included. If we were big drinkers, it may be a more attractive proposition.

6. The wifi is inconsistent, which is frustrating as we are using whatsapp to communicate with each other and local restaurants and massage salons etc.

It’s not all bad of course! The gardens are lovely. The staff are friendly and there are plenty of activities availible. The pool is great and this morning we discovered a kids corner in the breakfast area complete with cater which is superb. The location is fantastic - it’s really easy to walk or cab to local restaurants and massage salons, or to the Bali Collection.

Overall though, we wouldn’t chose to stay here again, unless it was a day either side of flying.

Dear L&Pontour2006,

Warmest greetings from Melia Bali!

Thank you for taking time to share your opinion with us on TripAdvisor.

First of all, we extend our most sincere apology for the difficulties encountered during your stay with us.

We regret very much that we did not impress you with some of our facilities. We assure you, that we took good note of your observations and discussed the issues with the various Department Managers in order to take the appropriate measures and avoid situations, such as you described, in the future. Please accept our most sincere apologies for any troubles you went through.

In regards to your comment about smoking areas, kindly be advised that starting 1st August 2018 all our restaurants on site became smoke free areas, and in the coming months we are planning to introduce the same policy for all public areas. Concerning the sunbed availability, please be informed that we are constantly monitoring the situation with sunbed availability and recently implemented a new system of monitoring the reserved loungers which are left unattended for a long time, to ensure that all our guests receive a fair treatment and have the same conditions to enjoy their time at the resort.

On another note, your feedback about our team is very encouraging and rewarding, in fact our people are our most prized assets as it is through them only, that we can show the true Melia hospitality as caring family providing unparalleled services straight from the heart.

Once again, thank you very much for posting your review and we hope to welcome you back in the future in order to turn your experience around.

Best regards,
Yelyzaveta K.

Melin Bali was a wonderful place to stay for our honeymoon. Staff was so kind and service was wonderful. We felt that we were well taken care of and pampered the whole time. The All Inclusive Level experience was well worth the money!

We have just returned after a 5 night stay at the Melia. We are from England, so had travelled a long way. We had previously stayed at both of the Alilahotels in Ubud and Seminyak, then travelled down to Nusa Dua for relaxation. We had booked a family duplex room for our adult daughter to sleep downstairs. On arriving at the property we were impressed with the lovely entrance, gardens and pleasant staff. We had paid for the All Inclusive package, so went to have something to eat while our room was prepared. The dining area at the beach was very nice with a beautiful beach. The pool was super crowded and full of children and no loungers in sight. We then were shown to our room and really hated it. So incredibly dark and depressing, on the 4th floor with a pokey tiny balcony you would never use. Up some very creaky stairs we found a lovely large super comfy four poster bed with Voile drapes. Lovely but the room wasn’t big enough to take a huge bed. The bathroom was nice and big, but my goodness so old fashioned it was shocking. Cheap toiletries, two of which were opened and seals broken. A weak shower over a creaky bath, and so dark in the bedroom you practically needed a torch. These rooms are in dire need of an upgrade and have the potential to be amazing. We were so disappointed after the Alila hotels we had stayed in. So after one night we went to ask to be upgraded to the Level. This comes in three layers, one is just the room with lagoon access, the next keep your room and just get the Level benefits and thirdly the whole lot, room and benefits. We decided we would go for the whole package. So now full Level benefits and All Inclusive package. Well, what can I say, I have never known such a dramatic transformation! The way we were treated and the new room was quite amazing. We loved our room. Absolutely beautiful. Big, modern, fabulous view, direct access to the lagoon, pillow menu. Beautiful bathroom with separate bath and walk in shower, superior toiletries, turn down service with chocolates. Two bathrobes each, one white fluffy and one lightweight oriental, plus lovely slippers. Lovely breakfast in calm environment and no bun fight. Level poolyou never had a problem getting a lounger, better drinks menu and food. Lovely beds on the beach. Complimentary cocktails in a separate lounge, afternoon tea. Honestly it was absolutely incredible. So much attention to detail, fabulous. If you can possibly upgrade for even some of your stay, then it’s worth the money. We enjoyed the stretch yoga classes, water aerobics were fun and the activities like cooking class and fruit carving. We met some lovely people and the staff were wonderful. We walked all the way to Club Med and I can honestly say the Melia was the best hotel. Thank you Melia for a fabulous stay!

Room Tip: Book a Level room with lagoon access, wonderful

My wife and I have the opportunity to travel on a frequent basis and have stayed in some really excellent resorts all over the world including, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, The Palace in Sun City, South Africa, Disneyworld in Orlando, Cocoon & Kani in the Maldives, a few club Med Resorts, Arabella Golf Estate in South Africa, and other in places like Malaysia, Thailand, and a few in Europe (including Disney in France), We have also expereinced some of these with our children and grandchildren. Without exception Melia Bali is the number one resort on our list. Apart for a small hickup on day one - which was sorted out quickly and very prefessionally by the great Level Team and their manager Yuli (and Anggia), Ending our 40th anniversary trip with 8 days at Melia Bali (and friends joining us from Australia) we had a super time at the resort. All the staff's friendliness, smiles and excellent service made up feel at home. Even one of the gardiners asked me about our home country and his honest interest impressed me. The staff at Sorrento Restaurant are the most elegant and professional people even faced in a resort restaurant - always smiling and willing to make your visit enchanting. All the other restaurants were great and the quality and variety of food was superb - the best we ever experienced at a resort of this magnitude. The all-inclusive package at the hotel is a must if you really want to relax and enjoy the break. The Level packages are worth every cent and the Villa-stay we had was an expereince we will never forget. The ambience, character and culture of the hotel is one of 5-star quality and experience. My opinion is that the staff (from the boottom to the top) is making the difference and adding so much value to make a stay at Melia Bali a memorable experience. Thank you so much Melia Bali for a special stay and you will always be part of special memories. we are planning to take the whole family in 2019.
