Owner description: One of the oldest cities of India, Banaras acts as an important religious center. The numerous bathing ghats (steps) along the bank of the Ganges attract huge crowds of pilgrims.

Due to festival we were caught in traffic jam and walked the last kilometre through people congested streets, music playing and senses overwhelmed with the chaos - would not have missed this for anything. The Aarti ceremony was very moving and was a definite highlight of our trip.

When we planned our trip, we weren't sure we wanted to visit the ghats. Now, having been there and experiencing the spirituality of the river and the city, I can say it was the highpoint of my time in India. It is amazing and must be seen.

The main attraction of this place is the ghats. It is one of the buzzing areas of the city. From boat rides to prayers, from meditation to cremation, from street vendors to teenagers, from Ganga aarti to every Hindu known ritual, this place is the heartthrob of the city. Though it gets dark and eerie at night, the early mornings and evening are perfect for people to enjoy a stroll or a boat ride

Varanasi was a surprisingly stunning!
The temples, the ghats , the food and the shopping was our only agenda!!
Evening Arti at the ghats was something I missed and would go back for!
But you can actually accomplish alot in a day here only if you start at dawn!!
We did the boat ride on the ghats in the morning at 6-7 am after breakfast at the hotel!!
Hired a guide for the day with a taxi so we could finish the day in time for our flight in the night!!
Visiting the Vishwanath ji temple by 8-9 with sprawling crowds and a lovely darshan!! Shivjis temple with the only message that live for today and not in your past or the future!!! Coz tommorow may never come!
Anapurana devi temple the goddess with the blessing of never ending food!!
We had the langar here where there is free food for all and you have to finish whats on your plate!! So go only if you can eat spicy food!!
Next we stopped at Sankat mochan Hanuman ji temple!! Ramjis selfless devotee was given this title because he helped and served Ram ji in his plight selflessly and legend says if you want to ask for your troubles to go away,Your prayers would be answered here!!

After this we ate at a chaat bhandaar the local bedawi aloo bhaji and jalebis with tea!!
Moving onto shopping for silk sarees and suits in the endless markets of banaras!!
Completing the day by leaving for the airport two hours early coz the traffic here is a mess!!
Lovely time spent and a beautiful visit!!

The ghats in Varanasi are out of the world you will actually be transported to a different world when you sit or talk a walk around the ghats. The ghats define Varanasi
