This is a very different and small zoo. But don't get fooled by the zoo size. they have quite a few species including the Big cats(tiger, lion). The animals are let out in their natural habitat converted enclosures. This is one part of the zoo. You can take a battery operated vehicle to finish the zoo soon without much walking.
The other part is a surprise. The Tigers, Lions, elephants, Deer, Bears are roaming in huge Natural Forest area but each animal species is separated form one another. Yes. Each of these five animal species are in different natural huge enclosures and the tourist are taken into this enclosures in vehicles(bus preferably) and its completely safe. These cute and majestic animals come near the bus to socialize with us. The bears were too cute and the tigers were majestic. The lions were as usual Lazy. Take the Grand Bus Safari (Bus safari inside jungle plus Zoo entrance fee included). It was a great experience.

Been here 4 times with friends, family and relatives. Few tips for the first timers :

1. Avoid the zoo, better take the jungle safari in bus or jeep.
2. Have always taken the jeep safari, cost around 2500 INR for a total of four people with a kid - lasting around an hour
3. They also provide AC bus safari costing around 500/ per head.
4. Advantage with jeep is that, you can go super close to the wild animals such as lions, tigers and white tiger. This is not possible in bus as the bus has a dedicated path to follow, while the jeep can also go on small muddy paths where animals are sitting.
5. My experience of seeing lions and tigers have always been great with animals coming inches close to the jeep. Last time one tiger ran behind our jeep and it was quiet scary but worthy of an experience.
6. Don’t worry, it’s India and jeeps here are protected with iron cages on the windows so you are protected.
7. Please don’t, scream at the animals and this might aggregate their behaviour. Remember you are in their territory. You have enclosed them for your fun, so respect them and enjoy the nature beauty.

Avoid the zoo and it’s just a time waste. Better spend money on safari and enjoy.

Although the zoo area is not very big, it is well maintained. One must go for the animal safari which is conducted every hour. The safari area is huge and wild animals roam around freely. Options are there to take both ac or non ac buses for a safari. The ac bus tickets costs double though. The bus takes you through separate areas of Lions (which were very drowsy), Tigers, White Tigers & Bears. Time duration for this is 45 mins approx. Effectively half of the day is required to cover this place. Overall good place to visit. Children's will throughly enjoy this place.

We visited Bannerghatta National Park in the month of Sept '17. The park is quite near Bengaluru and is easily accessible. However, it will be advisable to leave early in order to avoid heavy traffic. Also, it will be easier to book the safari ride before the crowd begins to come. The safari is quite interesting and takes one into the deeper part of the forest. The scenery is very good and one can definitely spot tigers, elephants, lions, deer and other wild animals. Children will enjoy it thoroughly as will adults. The guides are very good and courteous. The safari is for an hour. The only disappointment was that the wild animals have become too accustomed to humans and behave differently than true wild animals that one can see in Ranthambore or Bandipur. However, this is a minor drawback and the enjoyment is no less. The butterfly park is filled with various types of butterflies and is a feast for the eyes. The zoo section is the true disappointment. It is not maintained properly, unlike the park and many cages are empty or in different stages of disrepair. It is advisable to visit the park as early as possible though it opens from 10 AM. The restaurant has a good setting but the food is very average. Overall it is a good place to spend a day with family and friends or couples.

The park has some interesting animals but compared to international standards the park has poor hygiene conditions specially for young kids! I have not done their safari yet.
