40,000 tourists with selfie sticks come here a day. you arrive following at least a 2.5 hr drive from urumqi. You walk around, get on many shuttle buses here and there, see a lake, it's nice...... But it's not so relaxing with the 40,000 tourists, and then the 2.5 hr drive to Urumqi. The guy that sat next to me on the bus was so inspired by the road he took photos of every bend. I thought, has it come to this? are you so bored. I was through with Touristic sites in China after this. In a comical moment in the toilets at this site as i unlocked my toilet door to leave, she was in such a hurry to get in that she didn't wait for me to get out and it seemed unclear to her that I needed her to leave the stall for me to be able to exit. Frankly I wouldn't bother. I suggest lying on a pool lounger in a 5 star hotel, getting a pedicure and locating the first plane out of there.

Our family visited the Tianchi Lake on Oct 2. We just came from Kashgar, which was a spectacular - in contract the Tianchi Lake was very basic. The natural beauty was semi destroyed with all the construction and walkways constructed. This is by no way "Swiss like". It may be a good visit for anyone who has had no exposure to prior natural topography. Not worth the half day trip if one has had other true natural Lake or Mountain visits.

Just like all the national attractions, you have to pay to get in

The price is 220 RMB which is quite steep in xianjiang

After you enter the gate, you have to switch to a smaller shuttle bus to to the lake which is another 40-45 minutes ride

When we arrive, it started to rain, then comes the snow

It was freezing cold!!!

The lake is quite small, and there is boat tour available

Due to presence of fog, there is no boat ride....who wants to go on a boat ride on a cold day

In the afternoon there is a short ten minutes break

The sun comes out,

The scenery is beautiful, with blue water and green and yellow trees at the background

Within five minutes come the cloud, the fog

It was a beautiful scene caught on camera, then nothing is visible again!!!

For those who have not visited a lake, when the weather gets cold,it is not worth visiting

This place is getting rather crowded n a little commercialized, nonetheless the scenery is still pretty nice. Can view some changing colors of the leaves during this time as you take the boat ride..if one has time it maybe worthwhile to take the rope way or do some trekking.

To get a feel of what I write, I know only a few Mandarin words. We followed a guided tour that begins from the North Entrance of the People's Park, Urumqi City. We bought the bus tickets (RMB100/2 pax) a day before. The bus leaves at 9am. The tour guide only uses Mandarin. She speaks little English. My wife and I had to pay an extra of RMB710/2pax which was for the entrance fee, boat ride and a short cultural show. At the end of the day we felt that extra was worth the money. A side note. This Lake is not accessible with private vehicle. All visitors must use the shuttle buses provided by the management. Visitors are only allowed to embark and disembark at specific places.
