I noticed that the last review for this hotel was around 2010. I'm not sure my room had been cleaned from the last reviewer. Everything about the hotel is old. Old I can cope with, old and unclean I can't. Bedding was well stained, bathroom fixtures also. Floors were not something you wanted to walk on with your bare feet or socks. Hot water only rarely would make an appearance unless you boiled it. There was a kettle in the room for that convenience. Non-smoking room had a strong stale smoke smell and the walls did little to stop you hearing your neighbours or what was happening in the hallway. I left on the second day once I had shaken off enough of the jet lag to find a suitable hotel.

we stayed here on the 6/09/10 were booked for two weeks but pulled out after four days and went to Turpan for six days at another hotel which was excellent but came back and stayed here another three days the first room was poor the bathtub was black had to stand on a rubber mat which they supplied cause you would have ended up with foot rot the the room had blown lights other than that it was ok .they advertise they do a western brekky but most of its Chinese who wants fried rice and chilli noodles at 6am ooh by the way breakfast is Beijing time not urumqi time so its two hours earlier don't drink the coffee as its watered down rubbish your better going to da bizarre in town underneath there's a supermarket that stocks nescafe gold for 65 Yuan about 12.00 Aussie make your own.went to reception to complain about there so call western breakfast only one girl could speak English the rest just look at you like ahhh so bad for business .only one person was worth there weight in gold was lisa ren had trouble checking out tried to overcharge us on a spare bed we had installed for two nights for a friend at 150 Yuan a night every other hotel was only 85 Yuan tried to get another 600 Yuan out of us saying she stayed for extra four nights .lisa did the right thing and we came back for three nights first night was paid for from the stuff up.the second room we had was much better seemed bigger with better furnishings bath was still jet black though i dont know what they clean there baths with but it cant be much all in all we had a pretty good time just dont expect much from staff except lisa and a young girl that would fix the computer if they weren't working.if you are expecting to sleep in forget it as around 5am tourists from other parts of china start slamming there hotel room front doors continually for about the next 3/4 to a hour after five very annoying the hotel in Turpan was the worst of the two that we stayed at for banging there front doors. the rooms are big and free internet no tea or coffee in the rooms or spoons so you have to stir your tea or coffee with a chopstick which you have to buy at the shops.all in all we did have a great time just wish they could cater a bit better for people from the other side of the world.

The Torch Hotel is a clean, comfortable Chinese budget hotel that aspires to emulate Western-style properties. In addition to a comfortable bed and bathroom, my room included a laptop PC and Peninsula-like control panel for operating the lights and television. These high tech amenities weren't best in class but certainly represent a desire to offer value / service beyond the expected. I also found the hotel staff to be quite friendly and food at the property to be adequate.

Given the price point, I'd certainly be willing to try this property again as opposed to staying at a higher priced equally bland Western chain in the city.

Be aware that the breakfast served at this property is very Chinese and may feel like dinner for breakfast to some guests. If you really need a good Western or Japanese-style breakfast, this probably isn't the place to stay.

Upper floors offer a nice view of the city and the nearby Tien Shen mountains.
