We were amazed at the diverse assortment of activities and services available in this park. Parents with their children’s profile’s and photos attempting to find a spouse for their offspring filled a section of the park. Ear cleaners strolled among the patrons of the tea house while friends gossiped and families visited. In another section dancers twirled and music played competing with Chinese opera in a neighboring pavilion. Children played and petitioned parents and grandparents for sweets or toys sold in kiosks along the walkways.
The grounds are beautifully maintained and , except for some angry chess gamblers, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

We enjoyed walking around the park - it's enjoyable getting off the main streets and seeing some greenery! There were lots of groups of locals in the park doing various activities such as singing, theatre, dancing etc. All doing this in different areas of the park and it was fascinating to watch.
There was a lake where you could hire boats, food stalls to eat and drink and lots of different areas to wander around and enjoy the local culture.
Recommended if you have time.

In every major historical city of China there is always at least one people's park. A park mainly for the retired and unemployed to spend as a community in. There is a real sense of community in these parks (or somewhat local hangout gangs).

In Chengdu in this park you'll find all sorts, bonsai garden, retired people playing chess, cards, Mah Jong to performing Chinese opera. Each and every corner of the park is surrounded by - yes it's in the name people.

Even local school children and younger generations come here to gather after school or work for downtime to relax and socialise. It's extremely impress. Do note that not many people like their photos being taken so if you want photos ask first or take them discretely.

There are public tea houses and craft shops in and around the park, it's a nice place to experience the culture and daily lives of many but can get very busy.

There is a section of the park where parents and grandparents literally acts as a dating advisor to find their children or grandchildren suitable other halves to date.

In China younger generation from those born in the 80s are less concerned with dating, but a stigmatism around those still not married in their 30s the older generation still exist so their parents decides to take mAtters in their own hands and try to match make without their knowledge. As you can imagine this is somewhat not seen in European countries.

Interesting place to visit so give it a try.

We are on a tour and were brought here to see the tea house and learn mah jong from the locals. We walked around and watched the dancing and singing all around. It’s a beautiful park. As a Westerner I was happy to see popcorn which I bought and happily ate!

When I first came the teach in Chengdu, People's Park was the first place I visited that made me start falling in love with the city. No matter how difficult being in Chengdu is - language barriers, crossing the street safely, the bathrooms... - People's Park is a little piece of paradise right in the heart of the city. Whether you take a stroll, enjoy a cup of tea in He Ming Tea House, or just people watch, People's Park is the perfect place to visit for a little respite.
