We loved this hotel! It has the look and feel of 'old China' but the rooms are very modern and recently remodeled. Our room included a beautiful bathroom (albeit small), and a wonderful sitting/entertainment area. The large windows had shutters we could open to see the rustic market area below. It's very quite and located near a beautiful Buddhist temple. A lovely golden buddha sits in the public area in the ground floor atrium. The light aroma of incense wafts through the hotel all day. It's an incredibly romantic and beautiful property. The staff were great as well. I would absolutely stay there again were I to return to Chengdu!

Room Tip: No elevator, but the staff took care of our luggage for us

The hotel is decorated as an ancient Buddhist monastery, the staff is courteous and attentive, however they speak a limited English and communication could be a problem at times. The room is a good size and we enjoyed the balcony a lot, the bathroom is good as well. There is no minibar/fridge in the room and the WIFI is free, but it is painfully slow.
They have a great breakfast buffet. We used the SPA and it was a disappointment, no need to spend your time and money on that.
The hotel is in a quite good location by the Wenshu Monastery, we loved the surrounding street market. All the other city's attractions are quite a bit of distance from this hotel and to reach them you need to rely on public transportation. We founded the transportation system a bit challenging. Because there are only two subway lines, (the closest from the hotel is 10min away) we needed to rely mostly on buses which are crowded and confusing.

First time I ever stayed in a Zen-themed hotel! Comfy beds, elegant bathrooms, excellent breakfast, but best of all - an unbeatable location in the old quarter of Chengdu, steps from the Wenshu Monastery and its beautiful "Garden of Fragrance" restaurant and tea garden.
Drawbacks are common to many Chinese hotels: sewer smell in the bathroom sometimes, no elevator (but it's only two stories, 35 rooms), some deferred maintenance. Dinner is pricy and very Sichuan.
Hotel has a pleasant-enough looking spa but it looks understaffed (one man only when I went to inquire).
Staff are very helpful and unfailingly cheerful and patient. They arrange pickups, tours, and so on, and save you time by stocking some tickets (e.g., panda sanctuary).
I would return to this hotel when I next visit Chengdu.

The style of this hotel makes you feel as though you have stepped into the past whilst it retains the comfort of modern living. In the evening there was a young lady playing an ancient Chinese string instrument in the courtyard. The hotel is in an ancient Chinese style street surrounded by many shops. The only thing we weren't happy with was possibly the air conditioning. We both got stuffy noses for our entire stay which cleared within 12 hours of leaving

We were only in Chengdu for one night, so we didn't get to experience the hotel any longer - but the property is lovely! The room we had was really a suite, with a living room and separate bedroom. It was huge. The hotel is updated and beautifully done, without being in the austere ultra-modern style that so many hotels follow now. In addition, the staff at the front desk was extremely helpful. When the closest ATM machine wouldn't work for us, one of the staff took almost 30 minutes of his time to walk us to a machine farther away. The service was above and beyond in my book. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you will be in Chengdu.
