With an expensive entrance fees of RMB95, there is a shuttle bus provided to and fro the starting point of hiking. You may be amazed by the beautiful scenery but surpised to see many new rocks being put inside the ponds to make the surroundings unnatural.

We chose a more difficult route climbing up to see the Wei Zhu Nunnery and required double time to finish. It was disappointing to see the great waterfall shown in one of my photos. Might not be the best season for it.

It is a beautiful mountain near Qingdao. We took the bus to the entrance where you can buy tickets to get into the park. You then take a little bus to the beginning of the park. It is a very nice park, with walkways everywhere. The scenery is wonderful with rocks, waterfalls and pagodas.
Well worth the visit!

The Beijiushui River is also labeled "Laoshan Beijiushui (West Gate) on some maps. This is one of the northern park entrances to the beautiful Loashan Mountain park. A ride from downtown Qingdao will take about 40 minutes. Tickets are bought at the entrance, then buses will take you about 1-2 km into the park to the beginning of the trails. The trails are extremely well built with either wood or chiseled rock. Many sellers will greet you around the entrance, but past them you will find a great view of the river valley full of large sun-washed boulders and rushing water. There remains some garbage on the trail as locals still need to learn to manage their own trash. The hike will take 3-4 hours to enjoy the various water pools at various levels. the Lion Waterfall is a must see. The hike up can be quite tiring due to the many steps, but well worth the hike.

We went slightly out of season on a Thursday with a Chinese friend driving. It's a good job he was, as it took a lot of negotiating to let us pass the barriers at the car park at the valley entrance. It was a good 10km from there to the start of the waterfall walk, and there didn't seem to be a bus. We took a guide who offered us the choice of climbing the mountain, or being directed onto the waterfall path. Unfortunately the other members of the group were not as fit as me and wanted the easy option. He led us up the hill and round till he got us to the paved path up to the waterfalls and charged us Y200 for four. (Later we realised he had bypassed the official entrance gate and saved us Y160).

The scenery is spectacular with rocks, waterfalls, pagodas and the climax is when you round a corner, look up and see a rock that looks like a lion atop a waterfall, to find on closer inspection that it is a massive lion sculpted from the rock - a real 'wow' moment.

I wish the rest of my party were fitter as I would have liked to explored a lot more. Local tea bought on the path back made an excellent present - though again it helped to have a Chinese speaker to bargain with the vendor.

I live in qingdao. we have a lots of 'donkey group' ,(hiking goup), every weekend we will go mountain. in my opinion. this is the most beautiful place in laoshan mountain,
the water is so clean and nice,
if you really want to hv fun, and if you have a strong body. i suggest you go with our dankey friends, it's really fun, we start to climb form the wild place (to escape the ticket, just joking, because we like the naturial place.) then go down from the touriest place.

wish you enjoy the beautiful mountain, clean water, and nice weather
