I don't know what s with Siem Reap that it is so expensive, and feels as if they re there just to dig in your pockets. We were given two rooms in the old section of the hotel facing the pool because we were told they were fully book, yet they werent, but they said they were in high season, but it wasnt. So we ended in the suits. Realizing that probably the driver that took us there was getting a cut, we booked online, in the same hotel, in a smaller room, for half the price: they werent really happy about it and gave us attitude. Staff seemed indifferent and not so welcoming. Yes, the pool is nice and yes they got a central location, and their breakfast was ok. But we didnt feel welcomed, and so after our second night in Cambodia, we took a bus and crossed the border into Thailand. We didn't get a great impression from Cambodia for first time travelers to the country, from this hotel. There s a variety of places, and if you are going to be be overcharged, better find a place where you d at least feel welcome.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in September. The hotel is very conveniently located in the middle of town but set back from the street - so is very quite. Overall the staff were pleasant and responsive. The hotel has a nice "resort / spa" feel to it (hence the name).

Unfortunately our stay was spoiled by an unpleasant experience when we checked out. While waiting in the lobby with fellow guests, we were confronted by a staff member who presented us with a wet hand towel from our room and said we would have to pay US$8 because the towel was dirty and we would have to buy a new one for the hotel. It had rained the previous day and I had been splashed with a little mud so I wiped it off with the hand towel. I explained that the dirt would easily wash out but they insisted (witnessed by other guests) that I had to pay US$8. It is worth noting that on the previous day I had some shirts and pants laundered in the hotel for a total of less than $8. I asked to see the manger who would not reverse the charge. I paid the $8 because I didn't want to cause a scene and our driver had arrived to pick us up. These were very basic towels and a single hand towel would cost less than $1 at the market (much less in bulk). This appears to be a little money generating scheme played at the hotel.

Since I was now the proud owner of one dirty hand towel, I washed it in the sink with a little water and soap in about a minute.

As I said previously - a nice place to stay but beware of scams and rip offs.

Somadevi is quite old but nice. We stayed there for 3 nights and everything went smoothly. It was our honeymoon and to our surprise the room was decorated with flowers and swans made of towels. The room had a balcony with the pool view which was great. The massages at the hotel are quite pricy compared to the ones outside on the streets, but it is convenient and so good!!

Food at the hotel is nice...try the Caesar salad!! There's a big variety for breakfast and the white bread is sooooooo good!!! We had it everyday and we even had dinner at the hotel twice as we couldn't be bothered going out. We went to pub street one night and it was very animated. So many restaurants and pubs around. The market is on the other streets and it's quite busy as well. Try the 1hr foot massage, it is the best!

There's a KFC close by the hotel, only 5 mins walk. Pub street is about 10-15mins walk but you gotta ask the people around where it is....it's quite hot there, get ready to sweat a lot! People in Cambodia are so nice but be careful of your belongings as we heard that there are a lot of pick pockets.

Don't change your money for their currency!! They use US$ everywhere, even at the market, restaurants, hotels etc!
Angkor Wat and all the temples are amazing....it's worth going and don't forget to get a guide as there's so much history worth knowing and it will make the experience much better :)

We were warmly and professionally greeted with welcome drinks on our arrival. All the staff we dealt with were always very polite and very willing to help with any queries.

This is a large hotel and is very well located for walking to markets, Pub Street, restaurants and sightseeing venues. There are 2 buildings of accommodation – one old and one new. Unfortunately we were located in the old (original) building which is a little tired and in need of a total revamp. Our room was clean and comfortable although was very dated. Bathroom was small and very old with mildew and peeling paint..

The dining room is very large and impersonal, furniture is dated and in need of cleaning/updating. Buffet breakfast was also disappointing. The Western offering was lacking anything decent. Besides eggs cooked any way you like, the bacon was dry and inedible, cereals were very ordinary (coco pops and corn flakes), limited fruit selection. There was also a vast array of Asian dishes.

Wi-fi was very slow and intermittent, consequently needing assistance from Reception on many occasions.

The Foreign Correspondents Bar is in walking distance for happy hour drinks. Elephant Bar at Raffles Hotel is a tuk-tuk drive away and is a must just to see the beautiful hotel; you’ll have to ‘dress up’ which is a nice change from shorts and T-shirt.

Book a car/driver/guide for your visit to Angkor Wat through the hotel, it’s the easiest way to do it and not very expensive.

We expected better.

Room Tip: Request the new wing for your room

We booked this hotel through a travel agent after carefully reviewing trip advisor comments.

Even tho I made my reservation through a travel agent, I sent a e-mail to the hotel to double check on my reservation details. Hotel was very prompt in replying to my mail.

Hotel is about 15 minute drive from the airport. Mind you there isn't much traffic on the roads:)

Check in was a breeze, not much drama :) given a 4th floor room facing the swimming pool. Room was very spacious / clean, bathroom had a shower and a separate bath tub.

Breakfast was great too, There were a egg and noodle station, and Vegetarian section of food too. Service was great.

The hotel is about 10 minutes walking distance to night market area and Pub street as this hotel is centrally located, didn't use a Tuk Tuk for my traveling, mind you its about $2 ride to the town.

Couldn't use the swimming pool, as most days in the after noon it rained :( but its a very nice pool with a swim up bar.

The 5 days we stayed at the hotel, each day we took a massage :) Comparing with out side prices spa is much expensive, BUT on the first day they gave us a 30% discount and there was a promotion going on between 9AM -3PM a 50% discount for massages. Most of the days we were out during that time, but manage to talk to them and gave us the discount to take it at any time during the day. Subsequently prices came to same price as out side, difference is ambience wise I would prefer the hotel spa:) massages were great, if I happens to come back to Siam reap, I will just visit Soma Devi for a massage. :)

Overall excellent service. No complaints at all. Will stay at this hotel again, if come back to Cambodia and of course will recommend this hotel to friends too :)
