I could not get enough of the sounds that surrounded me. Although the property sits about 5 minutes away from the center of the city, it felt as though I’d gone far away from the hustle and bustle and escaped to a very secluded and exclusive paradise.

A variety of birds would sing throughout the day in harmony with geckos and crickets. To my surprise they seemed to embrace staying in the background, adding to the ambiance, while allowing us to be comfortable in their setting.

At night the frogs would chime in with a little baritone and bass, reminding me of one of those old soundscape CDs….but this was very much the real thing. “Somebody pinch me!” was a text that I sent to a friend.

Room Tip: Every single space is unique and beautiful in its own way

If I ever have a resort of my own ... this would be it!!!! Where do I start ?! Everything about this place was super from the old Cambodian restored villas to the understated luxury and fabulous service.... the 'devil is in the detail' was written for Sala ... thank you for an unforgettable stay !! We will definitely be back.

We stayed at house 5. There are only 12 houses on the premise; each one formerly owned by a Cambodian family and reassembled at Sala Lodges once the family sold them. What a nice, calm atmosphere to counterbalance Siem Reaps hustle and noise. The staff would gave us a refreshing mixed juice drink every time we came back for touring for the day, complete with a cold scented towel. This is just one example of the attention to detail and professionalism they displayed at the Sala. The food from their restaurant, (Monolith) was easily some the best meals we had during our week long trip to Siem Reap. Come here for dinner/lunch or come here to stay, but definitely come here! This place is the Cambodian equivalent of the Jet Wing eco-retreat at Sigiriya, Sri Lanka and well worth it.

Beautifully restored old houses set in a lovely garden with flowers, frogs, birds, etc and a swimming pool. Service is excellent and it makes an ideal base from which to explore the stunning temples and vibrant town. Could not fault it.

Room Tip: All good I think

We spent three nights at Sala Lodges at the start of a holiday spread across Cambodia and Thailand. Despite ending the holiday at a 2-Michelin starred restaurant, the food at this place was probably the best we had all trip. The taster menu is wonderful, the staff were quietly efficient and the accommodation was good (though the lighting could have been stronger within our Lodge). Overall, most impressive and well run.

Room Tip: All rooms seem fine - with none in a particularly advantageous or noisy position
