Angkor Wat is the biggest of all of the temples and is one of the ‘big three’ temples alongside Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm. I understand it to be the largest religious monument in the world. This is a must see as are all of the Angkor temples which are breathtakingly beautiful. I watched the sun rise over the stunning Angkor Wat while sipping champagne. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Spectacular site. Do make the effort of reaching there before 6am, to see the sunrise. Its well worth the effort. I would recommend hiring a guide, to be able to see some of the more intricate details of the temple complex.

Angkor Wat deserves to be one of the wonders of the world. The temples are great - their number and vast area they occupy are mind-boggling.

We bought the tickets the day before to avoid queuing. It is a reasonable walking distance 300mt, from drop off to entrance then another 200mt to the temple 6am entry. Entrance to the top tower opens at 6.40am so be prepared to wait as 100 people at a time allowed. Worthwhile visiting. Our tickets cost US$37pp for one day across all temples.

Angkor Wat lives up to the hype. I used to flip through a deck of flashcards with world landmarks when my son was a toddler and Angkor Wat was one of them. We were excited to finally pay a visit and were thoroughly satisfied. The sheer size of Angkor Wat is amazing, but knowing it was built 900 years ago without modern machinery is mind-boggling.

The only drawback is the heat. Visit when it first opens in the morning, or be prepared with clothing to keep you cool along with bottles of water. The most intense heat is the long walk between the parking lot and main temple.
