If you would only have time to visit one site in Isfahan, then it would have to be the Sheiks Lotfollah Mosque. It represents the summum of Iranian 17th century architecture. Visit it in day time when the Fayence decoration shimmers in the sun. And then at night, when the floodlights make it look like a beautiful spaceship hovering next to the square. The decoration inside is beyond belief, and when offered a Persian carpet with the blue peacock tail motive inspired by the inside of the cupola, like me, you will not be able to say no.

This mosque was closed the day we were in Esfahan due to a public holiday. We were still able to see the entrance way to the mosque, which itself was very interesting and impressive. The rare staircase at the front of the mosque is thought to mean the mosque was not really meant to be entered from the square, rather the tunnel that apparently runs from the King's apartment opposite. In addition, the tile mosaics are simply stunning and vibrant. We sat and watched some architecture students from a local college draw the King's apartments from the steps of this mosque and to be able to engage with the local people in such a beautiful spot also made for a memorable experience.

This is one of the most beautiful mosques I have ever had the privilege of visiting.
It is visually stunning and has an air of peace and tranquilly that is soothing. There is also a deep sense of history and grandeur.
Being located on the side of the main square makes it easy to get to and is absolutely worth the visit. Don't miss this wonderfully beautiful sight.

I usually go to Naqsh-e Jahan square to see the beauties of the square. The special hangout location for me is Sheikh Lotfollah mosque entrance, because of it's the wonderful view of the square and also very suitability to sit and communicate with other people. Then, it's the best time to put out my sketchbook and sketch around. It's really recommended for you if you like to see beauties of the city.
