Mandalay Hill is worth the cab ride. This might be one of the few handicapped-accessible sites in Myanmar.

Mandalay Hill is a short distance away from the city. Climbing up the hill is possible on foot or by vehicle. Every morning and evening scores of people are seen to walk along the winding path up and down as a means of daily exercise. Anyway, walking up the steep hill needs some fitness. Views from the top are amazing. The whole of the city is visible from this 360 degree vantage point. There's a majestic temple that also doubles up as an observatory. If you like a bit of shopping there are vendors selling souvenirs, clotting etc as you climb down the observatory. Climbing up is easier as there are elevators/escalators. If you visit Mandalay you should make it a point to climb the Mandalay Hill.

I went there during the local tourists season which was the summer holiday. In the back entrance, can see locals n tourists alike went for a hike or jog. The entrance fee is 1000kyat for foreigners. The temple up is very colourful and well maintained. The sunset view is one of most beautiful I had ever seen. I wish I had try staying a day longer just to go for a hike there. The main entrance is 'guarded' by two huge animal statues, looks like a tiger but I'm not sure. If you're going through the main entrance, you'll be using the elevator.

We took a taxi to the foot of the hill. There you will find trucks/vans taking you up the hill if you want to avoid the 45min walk. Price 1000K per person. Great view of the area and nice temple complex. Near many other temples within walking distance.

I really enjoyed the climb up as there were plenty of reasons to paus and enjoy the view, or to study the various temples placed along the way.

Definitely recommend doing the climb!
