I have never seen so many people all thronging along the same pathway.. And still the coach loads were arriving. Despite this if you walk through the northern smaller streets you get a truer flavour of real Dubrovnik and with a lot less people!

Busy square with local produce and crafts for sale at market. The statue is well cared and has a nice design. I didn't know anything about this poet until the statue which prompted me to look it up. Square and statue gave an interesting history and the architecture and setting is very pleasant.

We visited/walked through this square several times on our visit to Dubrovnik.
In the centre is a large impressive statue of Ivan Gundlic. On most mornings we were there we stopped to look at the items for sale in the small local produce market.
There are also several very nice outdoor cafes/restaurants.
Always busy.

The Square was built after the 1667 earth quake when houses on the location were reduced to rubbles. A statute of the famous poet Ivan Gundulic was erected in the square to commemorate him (he is not only a poet but also a renown statesman) and then there is a small Amerling fountain as well. After long walks in the Old Town, there is a restaurant in the square where you could have a cup of coffee and refreshment and relax before you move on. Or I suppose meals could be had in the Square as well.

Gundulic Square houses an open air market. It also contains the statue of the poet, Ivan Gundulic and is worthy of a quick visit.
