Nice, 15th-century Renaissance-style building.
It is a classic to be here if you are in Cusco. The main staircase and the surroundings of the square give the cathedral a very special touch. Taking photos inside the cathedral is not allowed.
Cusco never ceases to amaze, a very artistic city, known as the Rome of America.
The Cathedral of Cusco is the best example of Andean art in Peru.
I recommend it for those who like art, here you can find paintings of great dimension, many of them painted by indigenous artists during the Spanish occupation, we had a brief visit to the cathedral and become familiar with many stories and facts related to this monumental building that was not included in a guide. It was a really nice experience.
When the europeans invaded peru the cathedral was covered in a layer of pure gold upon its resurrection and they melted the gold down and took it for themselves whats left is a still gorgeous cathedral in which its walls told thousands of stories and its halls echoed the many lives that walked through it I highly suggest seeing this place in person
While visiting Cusco and its "Centro Histórico", you cannot miss the beautiful "Catedral Basílica de la Vírgen de la Asunción", one of the most beautiful Roman Catholic churches of Peru. Its construction started in 1534 and ended 1668. After such this rather long construction period, characteristics of different architectural styles can be easily seen, such as Gothic, Renaissance, Mannerist and Baroque! The magnificent complex comprises the Cathedral itself, plus two connecting churches - the "Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Triunfo" and the "Iglesia de la Sagrada Familia", flanked by two solid bell towers. Here, the patron saint of Cusco - "El Señor de los Temblores" - is enshrined and most respectfully revered. Splendid altars. impressive paintings and perfectly wood carved pulpit and choir stalls complete the scene. Impossible to miss! Enjoy!
