The hotel is in an old building with an unique architecture. Very charming landscape. They have the first lift of Santiago and, believe me or not, still working well. A plus is the staff that is so friendly and helped me a lot to find the best options to my trip. Because it is a small and old building (but carefully care), some noise is expected during your stay.

We stayed here for two days whilst finishing our trip in Santiago. After staying in la providence for five nights I wasn't keen on the immediate surrounding area of this hotel. As others have said from the outside it is very underwhelming but as soon as you step inside you are transported back to the 1920s, the interior is stylish and in keeping with the building.
The rooms whilst well styled (we had room 505 and friends had 506- no window) are very small with little space for cases, we felt cramped for the few days we were there. Although the hotel is old I did feel the cleanliness was under par, there was a lot of dust on the skirting boards and on the door as well as dirty marks on the bathroom door. There also seemed to be a slap dash painter as there were paint splashes on the floor and over skirting boards/ window villa which just seemed to lower the feel to everything.
You do get two very nice chocolate truffles from house keeping at around 5pm and complimentary water.
There is a roof top bar where food is served on an evening and there is a relaxed, cosy vibe from the patio heaters. We ate dinner once and the food was mediocre although coffee was very good.
Breakfast is served on the ground floor in a fabulous room. There is plenty to choose from for a continental breakfast with homemade granola yoghurt pots and flapjacks to cooked meals if you ordered.

A few issues-
1. unable to check out on the evening although requested due to a very early morning flight
2. no option to have your breakfast as a takeaway- Pierre gave me some tin foil and a bag so I could take some food with me after having a bit of a moan so thank you for that!

The interior of the hotel is beautiful however rooms are very small and I didn't particularly like the area, whilst there was nothing wrong with my stay I wouldn't stay here again.

I'd recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice, central and boutique style experience in Santiago. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Food was excellent, both for breakfast and at the restaurant. Rooms are spacious, very comfortable and really neat.

The first impression is, perhaps, not promising. The exterior is unprepossessing and the immediate area does not suggest anything special...and then you enter and it is like stepping back in time. The hotel is a deco gem with much of the interior still as it was originally - the tiles are original as is the wonderful antique lift. It's one of those with the concertina metal grill doors - and both the outer and inner ones have to be shut for the lift to work. I suspect the staff are forever climbing the stairs to shut one of these when guests forget to. (There is also a modern lift for anyone who feels nervous, but there's really no need). The interior is all angles and windows and everything has a lovely slightly faded glamour to it. You can imagine this was once the belle of the ball - now, it's not quite as fresh but still has an real air of class. On a perhaps more practical note - breakfast is excellent even given the Chilean love of having puddings for breakfast. The room was fine - big enough and well appointed, but not at the luxury end - which was fine as we were not paying luxury prices. The architect who designed the building is something of a local celebrity and there are definite signs of his attention to detail plus the occasional oddity - the hotel has its own protective gargoyle/grotesque perched on the roof looking down onto the street. The bar at the top is worth a visit and sunrise/sunset from here is rather lovely.
I would not recommend this as a hotel for children - the lift doors might prove tempting to poke fingers into the gaps (not good when they then concertina closed), and the interior windows are rather low set and can be opened relatively easily revealing a significant drop from the higher floors. That point to one side - this is a terrific hotel for couples.

Room tip: The rooms are around the core...which is where the lift is. However, we were not disturbed by lift noise although light sleepers might be.

I read a review of this boutique hotel in a Sydney newspaper travel section and it looked like the perfect place. From the first checkin I knew we were in the right place and very pleased that we had booked for our outward journey as well. We had booked a deluxe room to ensure enough room for twin beds and were lucky enough to score a balcony room on the 6th floor. All the expected amenities. The hotel reflects the architecture of its designer Luciano Kulczewski from the 1920s and at the time it was the tallest building in Chile, the first with a lift and central heating. The lift remains but there are stairs for the adventurous. Some noise can be heard from the tiled floors but it was not an issue. The bar on the 6th floor was a magnet with tapas, views and good wine. Breakfast was a revelation with home made condiments and freshly prepared hot food options. Try the caramel spread! All staff were extremely helpful and contact the hotel if you require an airport transfer. They also arranged a day tour to Valparaiso and surrounds. We were close to many of the must-see districts with a plethora of bars and restaurants. Highly recommended.

Room tip: Balcony rooms have views.
