What a place 2km outside Pucón - walking distance or £2 taxi ride- this hotel is right on the lake shore with grounds to the beach ( where there is a hidden gem of a room) West facing gives fabulous sunset views from the restaurant which I have reviewed separately and is excellent in its own right for residents or non residents. Fresh produce from the hotel garden resulted in really excellent salads. Really enjoyed the open fire in the lounge conducive to talking to other guests if so wish. Bar had excellent wine list and also supported an open fire. Each room has its own fire but fortunately ( or unfortunately!) the weather was too hot to use. Staff speak perfect English and are genuinely helpful and friendly. I needed to do some work one morning before breakfast and sat by the fire in the lounge laptop on knee only to be brought some coffee by a staff member without even asking for it. That’s the sort of family run not Corporate place this is -and long may it continue. Really enjoyed the sauna in the SPA although the pool temperature was “ bracing “ and the changing facilities lacking with only one shared shower. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip stayed here in 1968 as have many other dignatories on the wall of fame. So what needs to improve ? So basics like weeding the patio steps outside the lounge - odd because the grounds are really well kept.

The hot tub was in permanent rest mode in the SPA

The toilet constantly flowed wasting water and wasnt fixed when asked

But perhaps the bigger jobs also need considering. The internet speed was low but i managed but could be improved

The main issue for us is we really don’t like a shower over a bath and shower curtain. Think that’s too much of a bygone time and a programme to upgrade en-suite would be sensible although costly.

Don’t be put off by this point- still a fabulous hotel it was a privilege to stay in as it feels like someone’s home but don’t expect a luxury bathroom. Clean and functional but if you know what to expect then can’t be disappointed. More
