The historic passenger terminal at Clifford Pier has been converted into the most beautiful restaurant with the original structure featuring cleverly in the design.
It is a shame the food and drink did not do justice to the room.
TA reviews had suggested a very wide range of reviews and opinions but as we were staying in the Fullerton Bay we decided to try it because our experiences of the hotel were very positive.
The warning bells started ringing with the pre-dinner drinks which arrived after we'd eaten the starter. Why? How complicated can two gin and tonics be?
Further, the cucumber in the drink was a six inch baton designed to remove an eye every time you sipped, whilst the tonic was served in a carafe having presumably been sourced from a bulk source(large bottle or soda fountain). It was completely flat. It may have saved the restaurant $1 but we didn't drink them, and at $22 each it was a waste.
We didn't eat the main courses either. We did speak to the staff about it but nothing much was done. When we found out the duty manager had been the person responsible for preparing the pre dinner drinks (35 minutes, flat tonic) we lost the will to live and went outside for a coffee to watch the laser show.
Having taken coffee, served in a cold cup and which had therefore gone bitter, the waiter returned to say that as the meal had been so bad the coffee was on the house, and he was genuinely pleased to share this news as if we had won the lottery. Against $190 for two g+ts (not drunk), two starters and two mains (not eaten), with no other drinks I presume the management of the restaurant felt we would be overwhelmed by the generosity.
