I have been to Sentosa on a number of occasions, walked past the Merlion statue, appreciated her enormity and grandeur as the tallest Merlion statue in the world but I was not aware that there is an entrance that we can take the lift up to her head and mouth and look down in an aerial view to appreciate the surrounding scenery.
Thanks to the great hospitality of Sentosa Development Corporation and the generosity of the subsidiary tenants, we were able to lead a group of 30 young children up to the mouth and head of the Sentosa Merlion. As I entered into the body of the Merlion, I noticed that the admission ticket is $12/- (standard) and $10/- for the local adult.
We followed a trail into a room where we were shown a video on the fabulous legendary tale of how the Srivijayan prince, Sang Nila Utama from Palembang saw a lion while on a hunting trip on the island and named the island as Singapura. The Merlion statue is associated with the discovery by the Palembang Prince.
Before taking the lift, we could insert our admission tickets into the mouths of mini-merlion statues on display at an atrium in exchange for gold coins which we could keep as souvenirs.
We then took the lifts up to the 10th level at both the mouth and head of the merlion statue. From the mouth and head of the Merlion, we could see the gorgeous panoramic view of the surrounding. The children were happy striking the make a wish bell. It was a new discovery.
Sentosa is small but I realized it needs much diligence to discover many of the unexplored areas and each time I visited Sentosa, I am always rewarded with many new discoveries. If you think you have seen all of Sentosa, you would be surprised that you have not seen them all.
