The Boracay Uptown hotel is well-situated - if you want to party. Close to Station 2 it is right in the centre of everything. Geographically, it is ideal.

As a hotel however it has delusions of grandeur. Less than two minutes after opening the door to our “deluxe” room, we were at reception asking if there had been a mistake. This was as far from “deluxe” (the word is commonly understood around the world) as anything you could imagine.

A tired room with windows opening into a view of other buildings (the hotel is on the seafront!) and with an air conditioner system that sounded like a diesel generator on a massive construction site.

“No sir, no mistake, you have a deluxe room” said the receptionist. I started to fear for the other hotel guests in less “deluxe” rooms!

Overall the staff were friendly and (I suspect) very used to dealing with such complaints from tourists used to their rooms matching more closely to the advertised definition.

I didn’t like the constant “air of suspicion” that seemed to hang over every guest. When we checked out we were made to wait for 20 minutes while our room was “checked for damage”... What damage could we possibly have caused to the cheap furniture and basic room?!

We stayed over New Year and of course the prices were inflated (probably 3-4 times what would normally be charged) ... but they could have at least had the grace to drop the “deluxe” bit from the advertisement...

While this hotel has friendly and customer-oriented staff and has good location near most restaurants and shops, it needs a lot of improvement. We’ve been to Boracay probably for the 7th time with family or friends. For New Year celebration for 2019, we stayed in Boracay Uptown with family members with multiple rooms.

The main concern for me is the low quality of food. After breakfast for 3 days, breakfast is not enjoyable at all. Coffee is so-so and juices are clearly all from powdered mix. The bread tastes old and not good. The usual breakfast menu is not appetizing and tastes commercial. Other restos and hotels in Boracay are better. I ended up just having a simple toast, eggs which are freshly cooked, and bacon and fruits.

For New Year’s Eve, they had a mandatory fee of P3,000 (~$60) which is a big racket. Entertainment was too simple (acoustics to get by), there was no setup for the occasion of the place. Food was lacking... for guests of about 200, some food items readily ran out. Wine was limited. Many foreigners in the place who were less patient complained about the dinner being crap. Management should recognize that for dinner called gala this expensive at NY eve, expectations are higher. The officer in charge was onsite but wasn’t concerned at all and has no sense of what’s lacking and lacks foresight or a sense of calculation.

Rooms are decent. The pools are tiny for the size of the hotel. The frontage of the hotel can be crowded due to many commercial establishments.

In summary, staff are friendly and hardworking but management seriously need to do more to give guests a better experience.

Great location but not so great facilities
One of the rooms we booked had no windows it was like staying in the box the other room we took was the beach facing suite it had a view to die for but there were a lot of services noise coming (water pipes) thanks to which we could not sleep well
The lift was not working
The Wi-Fi was not catching in the room I had to come to the lobby every time
The breakfast is nothing great
Pool bar was not fully functional
It said 4 star property but I think its not above a 3 star and facilities are more of a bed and breakfast
