Rude receptionist, power-cuts.

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 5, 2019via mobile
Stayed in the Penthouse for 3 nights as a family. The rooms were very spacious with a stunning view. The rooms were adequately clean and another positive point was the shuttle service provided by the hotel. The majority of staff were hospitable, polite and friendly, the main complaint and the reason for the low rating is because we felt like we were being watched throughout the stay and upon leaving the hotel, the receptionist Shane even told us that they were watching us and they knew who was going in and out of the room, who was using the downstairs bathroom, who was wearing pyjamas at specific times, which I found to be very disturbing. Initially I booked a room for 4 adults and 2 children, but instead 5 adults went (the room can hold 6+ people) and in all of my years going to multiple hotels throughout the Philippines, there has never been additional charge for another person, even as the 2 children did not go. Regardless, I could sense her hostility and anger and paid the 2,400 pesos for the 3 nights, I'm disappointed in the way that Shane handled the situation, there are more polite ways of conversing with customers. The only other complaint would be the power-cuts, especially in the evening when it's pitch-black outside and you're in the middle of having a shower, that was not fun!

We thanks this guest for his review but would like to offer a comment on those complaints that the guest makes:

As noted the group had booked for four adults but turned up with five. It is clear in the reservation process that additional guests over and above the standard four incur a charge which we requested the additional guest to pay while, as can be seen above the guest felt he should be free.

With regards to watching the guests, well we have a steep access road and therefore, for the convenience of guests, we offer a free shuttle service up and down the hill and to the nearby beaches. To that end off course we have drivers on standby looking out for guests who wish to avail of that service, how could we not??

Brown outs are a fact of life in Puerto Galera and unfortunately are the responsibility of the local Power authority. We consider it a positive that here at Tribal Hills we have 100% power back up through generators, many of the other resorts in the area can only run fans and lights during brown outs, not aircons and water heaters as we do here.

As to staff attitude, I can only request that potential guests take a little time to review the many, many other guest reviews and the comments that they offer in respect of the unfailing friendly and helpful attitude of all members of staff.

As a general recommendation we strongly suggest that all guests also take time to fully understand the details of the reservation that they have made and what can be found at the Hotel.

Best regards,

Tribal Hills

this is a very small but quite and nice resort, lovely pool and lovely people as well. room is basic but good enough varendah, ideal for few days to enjoy the white beach and surrounding areas. since road to sabang is absolutely disaster, this place is great is you are with your loved one. highly recommend . there were few dogs ,hope resort owner will keep them at his home rather than resort. while we love our dogs, I am not fan of dogs who are not familiar with

Room tip: choose mountain view room

Most of our stay at Tribal Hills was very good. The pool was very good. The restaurant has a good selection of courses and the staff is quite helpful. The rooms are a good size and quite comfortable. It was strange that there are no coffee or tea making facilities in the room. No bottled water and over 3 days the room was not cleaned. Overall it was good and I will go back but I will be better prepared this time.

Room tip: Deluxe Suite is best

Peter,

Many thanks for your kind words for Tribal and a few words of explanation for the queries you raise.

Ref room facilities: We like to give travelers on a budget to still be able to enjoy the kind of facilities that Tribal Hills has to offer. For that reason the standard room that you selected offers minimum facilities to enable the modest price that we charge.

We do encourage all guests to review the details of the room and its facilities that we provide on line where it can be seen that, in this category of room does not enjoy free tea and coffee.

With regards to room cleaning, many of our guests prefer to keep unusual hours (often jet lagged from long distance travel). For this reason we request that guests advise when they would like their rooms cleaned so that it is done to their convenience.
That information should have been conveyed to you at time of check in and we apologise if it was not fully explained.

Stayed here for a short break just before Easter, treated myself to the Penthouse which was lovely.

The staff were amazing, always happy to help and Owen the owner was a particularly informative chap having been in the area for many years.

The views from the wraparound balcony on the 4th floor were to die for, the sounds of the roosters in the morning constantly reminding you of the natural beauty of the location, close enough to White Beach when you want a bit of action and far enough away to feel secluded when you don't.

The food served at the restaurant was tasty, plentiful and reasonably priced.

Easy to get to from Manila and it feels so far removed from the city it's a breath of fresh air, quite literally.

I enjoyed it so much I'll be returning in just under three weeks, although I've booked a deluxe suite as opposed to the penthouse this time, but I'm quite sure I'll enjoy it just as much, if not more than last time as I'll have a lot more time to relax.

In summary, highly recommended and a great place to just feel away form it all.

See you guys again on the 21st October!
