I have done a great deal of challenging travel in my life, and Shangbala is a relief in a sea of dirty hotels with questionable facilities.

The gracious and famous Tibetan hospitality still exists at Shangbala, which can't be said for all the facilities in Lhasa.

First, the room and bathroom are clean and kept clean. This is a big deal.

There is hot water. Yes, this is also a big deal.

There is HEAT. I was there in November, and HEAT is a big deal.

There is at least one person on staff at any time who can speak English (in case your Chinese or Tibetan are weak).

The location is AWESOME -- near stores, other restaurants, and a quick walk to the amazing Jokhang Temple.

"Summit Coffee" is about a 1.5 minute walk from the front door. If you have trekked across Tibet and missed a real brewed cup of coffee, stop by.

The included breakfast is not luxurious, but is abundant. We also ate at the restaurant in the evening and had very nice meals. Again, not luxurious, but tasty with generous servings.

I don't know whether you can get a better bang for your buck in Lhasa. Just being able to be at the Jokhang in a 5 minute walk is sufficient to commend it.

Nice rooms with plenty of space and many ammenities.

The mattress is a bit hard. But just ask for an extra blanket to lie on.

Shower has nice hot water.

The breakfast is all right - many things to choose from. But the chef at the egg station need to learn how to make scrambled eggs.

Friendly reception staff and cleaning personel.

Don’t get a room with window towards the parking lot, as the drivers are using their horns late night and early morning, if someone is parked in their way.

You cannot beat the location of the Shangbala hotel in Lhasa. You are merely steps away from the Jokhang Temple and really in the heart of it all - restaurants, shopping - everything you need is a short stroll away. The hotel is very nice and while our room was small and a little dated it was quite comfortable. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating.

Rooms were ok, not super clean bathroom. Bed is of good quality. Great location: in walking distance from main tourist attractions and plenty of restaurants. The breakfast was rather bad: drinks and food were not refilled in time. After asking, they brought some more jam: frozen one!

Hotel is old but clean.
Hotel is in excellent location, in walking range to top attraction in Lhasa like Jokhang Temple, Barkor Street, Potala Palace. Surround by restaurant and souvenir shop.
Clean sleeping room and bathroom.
Staff have good English speaking and kindness.
Breakfast is include and very good. It's mix about Chinese, Western and Tibetan.
