The rooms are clean and modern
The bed is comfortable. Which in China is a big deal. They love their beds hard.
The staff is friendly. Some speak English better than others. Tony is your guy.
There's a great Peking Duck restaurant across the street.
Very close to all the main attractions and Wang Fujiang shopping district.

Cons
The lobby is a little old and dated.
The breakfast is awful. Not worth the 92RMB. There's better food across the way.

Each room has a courtyard garden and clever design. Front desk staff are attentive and the whole hotel has a boutique feel to it. Walking distance to Tian'en Men Square, The Forbidden City and Wang Fujiang shopping mall and night markets. Smoking areas well segregated from the non-smoking hotel areas. "Tony" (anglicized version of his name) on the front desk is especially good - sorts the inevitable hassles and a pleasure to deal with.

Hotel Kapok offers a great location and decent amenities at a great value. It is located just blocks away from the Forbidden City and not far from the metro. The hotel is a minimalist aesthetic and offers the basics in each room. The courtyard that some of the rooms have are quite nice, but do not have direct sunlight and so can be a little dark. If you're traveling with friends or family, be aware that the bathroom does not have a door, and the glass walls are merely closed with a curtain. Overall, Kapok is a very good value if you're not looking for something luxurious.
