We stayed here as part of a tour package which I suspect they get a lot of business from. The hotel is clean and the breakfast that is included with the stay is pretty good. The beds were comfortable too. The hotel is near nothing so be prepared to bus everywhere. There really is nothing to do in the immediate area. The hotel caters primarily to Mandarin speaking tourists, so don't expect any English here (that said, the staff were friendly to us non-Mandarin speakers). As others have said, the layout of the hotel is maze like and to be frank, why would anyone want to stay in a Mexica themed hotel in Beijing? The rooms while clean were odd in some ways. There was a glass window between the bath/shower and the main room. Good for watching people shower if that is your thing. Also, the design of the bath meant that when you showered, water often poured onto the floor in the bathroom which is likely why there needed to be a drain in the bathroom floor. Lastly, for some reason the lighting is really poor. We had two rooms and both had burned out light bulbs. Even if they worked the place is really dark. Last thing that I found odd was that the fitness room and poor were an extra charge.

Would I stay there again, likely not, there are better places in Beijing. If I had to stay there, I would not have a problem as it is passable.

Room Tip: There are many towers. Try to get one close to the centre as the end towers are quite far from breakfast and the lobby.

I stayed at The Maya Island for 6 nights with a 8 days Beijing, Tianjin & Chengde tour from 24/11/2017 - 1/12/2017. The decoration of the hotel (exterior and interior) is with the Mayan Theme at Central America. I was amazing no doubt the corridor is a bit dim in lighting.
About the breakfast, I would say the Maya Island Hotel serving a very good breakfast. There are variety of choices. I like the noodle soup very much and i took it every morning without failed.

Room Tip: The room is quite comfortable.. quiet

Hotel design like a maze and the hotel is quite big, too many twists and turns! But others services are okay, room are clean, cosy and have everything you need. Breakfast buffet was okay with quite some varieties of food available.

Checked in with a 7 day Beijing tour group. The public areas were designed/ decorated in a Central American Mayan theme. The hotel complex actually consisted of 8 interconnected buildings creating a real life labyrinth to negotiate, so it was easy to get lost.

Building/floor layout changes were not well sign posted. Some signs to exits/lifts to new building could be easily missed as they were situated in the exit corridor, floor lift foyer rather than in the main corridor before the exit/turn. Check in staff did not even explain hotel layout or room numbering system. The room number e.g. 3406 should be read as Build “3” Level “4” Room “06”. With this basic information, you had a chance of finding your room. Many guests wandered around aimlessly trying to find where they were going or to get off the floor, they were on.

Hint: follow illuminated exit lights near floor, at least they would get you somewhere, like an exit, lift or closer to where you wanted to go.

The room décor was modern but very dark, black and gold and dimly lit. You would need a torch to find something dropped on floor. In saying that, the room amenity was actually good with wifi, separate desk and day chair etc. Bed and pillows were comfortable and not too hard. The bathroom facility was well appointed and everything worked well but the bathroom had one of these “fashionable” Chinese full length glass windows from the shower to the living/bed room. Luckily it had a venetian screen blind.

Even though we stayed 6 nights, we never had an opportunity to use the hotel’s other amenities such as pool and restaurants etc, although we were told by other guests that the restaurant food was reasonable.

The hotel is situated in a relatively new commercial business area, near the 6th ring road, south west of central Beijing, so there was not obvious shopping/restaurant opportunities in the immediate area although we notice the odd convenience store/KFC open at night, within walking distance from the hotel but that was not to say there were no other alternatives close by.

The morning buffet breakfast was very reasonable, mainly Chinese dishes, with a wonton soup station, plus a local Beijing delicacy, a Jianbing station, a novel and popular choice by many (But my wife, being a Beijinger, had to get staff to slightly alter the contents to make it more like the real thing), standard eggs/sausages, particularly the sausage, tasting more like traditional western breakfast sausage, which was good . There were plenty of fresh fruit juices, water melon, other fruits, croissants, Danish pastries, toast, jams, cereal plus a small Delonghi coffee machine working overtime dispensing fresh coffee. Food was plentiful and restocked during the breakfast period.

We had a room change on our last night but when we tried the new electronic key, it appeared not to work. We found a floor attendant, who tried to help us unlock our room door(as per the number provided) but again no luck. So back to the foyer, which took a bit of time (new floor/location). The hotel room floor number had been incorrectly recorded on our card, we were in the right building but the wrong floor. The reception counter staff response was rude/abrupt, with not even a “sorry”, just check the system, corrected the number provided, then handed back the key with a disgruntled look. Had we not been so tired, wanting just to go to bed, we would have made a point of the poor service from the check-in staff.

We were on a tour so did not spend a lot of time in the room. But it had everything needed. Water replenished every day and housekeeping service was very good. Breakfast was very good. Lots of variety. Buffet style and two cooking stations. Fitness center was great as well. Friendly staff.
