What a truly beautiful place with such a fantastic story to tell. The guide Valen was a font of information and made the visit much more meaningful. Just a pity the soil type was not right for growing coffee. Together with the Syphilis, all quite a painful experience for Karen.
Guide Charles Nthiga was phenomenal!! He did an amazing job! Looking forward to another trip really soon.
Karen Blixen Museum, located 10 km outside of Nairobi, "at the foot of the Ngong Hills", is the former African home of Danish author Karen Blixen, famous for her 1937 book Out of Africa which chronicles life at the estate.
The house was donated by the Danish government in 1964 to the new Kenyan government as an independence gift and was opened to the public in 1986, following the popularity of the 1985 movie, Out of Africa, multiple Oscars winning film.
Iconic place very well kept wonderful gardens. It is one of the unmissable and "must-see" places to visit when in Kenya
Learn about the life of one of Kenya’s most famous colonials, Karen Blixen.
Nice grounds around the original home restored as a museum.
I didn't love this Museum ... but the grounds are beautiful.
You have a short intro talk from your guide before entering the house for the tour. Essentially it is a walkthough with some more information from the guide on the way. I thought that the kitchen area of the house was interesting and some of the pieces in the house such as the elelphant leg table and the lion skin rug were insights into relics of the past.
Unlike some of the other Nairobi attractions that I visited I wouldn't come again.
You can't take photos in the house but you can in the gardens.
