Let's start with the full side of the cup. The hotel reception is nice and helpful and can speak both English and Russian rather fluently. The hotel also has a good lobby and an really beautiful open-top area. It's also really close to a McDonald's and a small shopping mall named "Merani Mall" which has some rather nice brands.
But that's not all. The building is not new at all and the elevator is rather scary. The rooms (while renovated) are rather old. Also the shower head in some rooms is broken (but it is still usable). It's also aside a rather busy street that crossing it is not so easy.
Overall, If this was a 3 star hotel, it would be a rather above average one but it's definitely not a 4 star hotel.

This is a medium level city hotel. Location is not great but good. It is just two buildings up a steep hill from a main street. A major city square is very close and the river is nearby. The city center, which I think to be the Freedom square, is a 10-15 minutes ride or half an hour walk away.
The building is not new but in an acceptable condition. After looking to several rooms we chose suites on the fourth floor which seems to be renovated not long ago. The other rooms looks a bit old especially the bathrooms. There are good choice of rooms though from 6 beds to standard 2 bed ones. Rooms have kettle, complimentary water, tea, hairdryer, iron and bath amenities.
Rooms and other places were clean. The staff was really helpful.
As a note they do not have gated or assigned parking. Parking is only available on the street yet we had no difficulty to find a space in front of the hotel while we were there.
For the right price I recommend considering as an option.

Room Tip: 4th floor seems a better choice

The Iliani hotel is situated within walking distance of Freedom square and the old town of Tbilisi. This hotel is responsibly priced and has very friendly staff. Our baggage was lost on the way and the hotel staff went out of their way to help us. If visiting the Iliani we recommend one of their taxi drivers called Abto , he was honest and helpful with us. We were here for the European youth Olympics and really enjoyed our stay

The hotel is in a good location, a 3-minute walk from the local Philharmonic
The staff is very friendly and helpful, but the hotel itself leaves much to be desired
The beds very narrow, unpleasant smell in the bathroom
