A small but beautiful gallery showing some of the best local artists, such skill.Covers a diverse range of topics
The place is mostly exciting for art collectors. You can see famous artists' paintings and sculptures in this place. You can even buy some of it. Just prepare to dough for a good painting to take back home.
The River Gallery is a definite must see for lovers of art. High quality artwork is on display and the staff are very informative. It was great to see the Thanaka Women on display. It really is a must see.
The street is pretty unpreposessing but the gallery is a gem, and is airconditioned too so a welcome respite from the heat. It is modern and well laid out and the staff very welcoming and there is no aggressive selling. If you just want to browse they leave you alone. They stock a lot of modern Burmese art as well as some solid artifacts. A visit is enjoyable.
This is a place you should visit if you love Myanmar art or want to know more. River gallery is an exclusive place where you will see works by established Myanmar artists (they do have a lot of high end 'monk' paints for tourists too if that is your thing). The works are obviously not cheap but it is a great place to see some of the work by some of Myanmar's leading artists.
I had visited this gallery in The Strand a few years ago, and wanted to go back on this trip, but I discovered that it has moved to the street next to the hotel, so it was just a five minute walk to get there. The new space is even better- going in you feel as if you might be in New York or London - except the staff are friendlier.
Myanmar definitely has some talented artists, offering a wide range of artistic styles, and you can see many of them on display in this one place. The owner is a NZer who has changed the lives of many of the local artists over a number of years by giving them a wider platform and voice - she is to be much lauded for the positive impact on Myanmar Society. Great if you've only got a short time in Yangon.
