Good value and Japanese style amenities

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 18, 2018
This is a hotel that mainly caters to the Japanese as there are many such visitors to Palau. For the price, this hotel is a good value for a typically expensive or lackluster accommodations in Koror. The decor throughout the hotel and grounds is of wood and rattan, so it gives a very local vibe, instead of the center of town hotels that are built entirely of concrete.

The hotel offers Japanese style amenities such as Shiseido toiletries, gift shop, even teppanyaki if you're so inclined, although quite expensive. In our 3 day stay, we only saw 1 other person who was not Japanese, although this European man looked quite lost in the resort. This is not to say that English is not spoken here, as all of the staff do speak some English, and the Palauan staff speak it quite well.

The hotel seems to lease out a space to a restaurant called the Jungle Bar, which serves a combination Palauan, Filipino, and Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price (for Palau). We had one of our better dinners here. Draft beer is reasonably priced as well, but unfortunately the space is more like a jungle decorated dungeon. They do the best they can, I suppose.

One word of warning is that there is nothing to eat from 2pm to 6pm until the Jungle Bar opens, so when you get back from your tour typically around 4 or 5pm, you're left with a local store about 50m from the gates for some chips and soda/beer.

Another slight bit of annoyance was the high price of airport transfers. Coming into Palau at night really leaves you no other choice though, but to pay the $20 per person each way for a 10 km, 20 min ride.

This hotel is located on a hill outside of town. It is too far to walk to/from town and dogs from surrounding area we were warned to be wary of. The jungle and all of it's bugs (termites, cockroaches, etc.) are present. I'm not sure if the staff was dishonest or unorganized, but our group of 5 had numerous problems with paying cash for a taxi, laundry, etc., and then still having that bill appear on our room expenses. It was an argument every time and very unprofessional and took days to get straightened out. Personally, I think cash was being pocketed, but I have no way to prove that. It was uncomfortable and I would not go back to repeat this. Also, the onsite restaurant is very expensive, 2-3 times the price of any restaurant in town, but you need to take a taxi to/from dinner which is inconvenient and adds to the cost. It was still much less expensive to go into town.

We stayed for a night at their Jungle View Suite. The room was spacious, and i can say it's well maintained for a nipa type of room. Their bathroom was quite nice, you'll feel relax soaking on their tub. The ambiance of the place is peaceful, you can really take a rest. Their staff are all accommodating and warm. They always smiles which makes you feel at home. Few breakfast options, but understandable.

Only thing i can suggest is to improve the wifi signal, but if you're travelling to get away from stress and really want to enjoy time with yourself and your partner, slow wifi connection is no big deal. Anyway for those travelling to islands like Palau you have to remind yourself that your not in the city where you can always stay connected to social media. If you need to get in touch with your loveones, to let them know that your are safe you can always give them a call.😃

We split our holiday between here and the Palau Pacific Resort, and really enjoyed this hotel. Very peaceful, lovely views over the Rock Islands from our room, and very friendly staff.

The location 5 mins drive away from town isn't a problem, with regular free shuttle rides into the centre of town. And if you do want to go somewhere else on the island, it's only $5 per trip, provided by the Plantation staff. We used the laundry service, which was both excellent value ($5 per basket) and amazing - I have never had such perfectly folded clothes before!

We stayed in one of the cheapest rooms ("Premium Cabins") which was lovely. Clean, comfortable, and with walls made of wood and local weave.

Compared to the Palau Pacific Resort, this feels much more friendly, with local produce/fish/fruit, and more of a part of Palau.

Very charming hotel in Koror. 15 min walk from Main Street and post office. Has a nice swimming pool and spa. View on the mangrove are fantastic in the morning. Food is good and big portions. I regret that the jungle bar has no windows. It is sad for me to be inside when the surundings are so beautiful. Possibility to do some organized tours with kayak in the mangroves.

We picked this place based on the TA reviews, and also because the bigger hotels are quite expensive, especially for a family of 5. This turned out to be a great choice for us. We booked one of the 6 person villas (2 br, loft, 2 ba) which was very spacious and comfortable- good for our teenagers to spread out. The hotel has lovely pool, jacuzzi, spa, several restaurant/eating options, a bar and more.....plenty to keep us happy. We actually ate there every night as we were all quite comfortable, and the restaurants in town didn't really seem all that appealing. The staff were incredibly gracious and kind, really lovely to work with, and so accommodating. The first morning one of them even cut us a fresh bunch of bananas! Doesn't get any fresher than that! There is no beach- but as we discovered, even though Palau is an island nation, there really are few beaches and most are private and expensive to use. That came as a bit of a surprise, but as we were there to dive, really wasn't a problem. Would absolutely stay here again!
The hotel does have wifi, but the signal is not great.
