Waiter was terribly unfriendly and I saw im treat at least 3 other parties the same way before we even ordered... we left without eating.

Lucky find. We ate hear a few times in  the evening during our stay in Jerusalem. A good variety on the menu. Food was ok and remarkably good value bearing in mind it's such a busy area in the old city.
There is a small kebab shop just a few doors away that actually tried to charge us more for a second rate take out than we paid for a sit in meal here.
Some travellers have complained of poor service.  We suspect this might be because not all the staff are confident in speaking English. Be prepared for minimal conversation and be ready to point to your choice on the menu !

The service was of the better kind in the old city. Reality is that Israel is not a customer service orientated society it seems. People are just rude by standard. At least the service was ok in this place. The food was fine, the fries were a bit limp but that seems to be the standard in Israel as well! Baklava was really nice and my friend says so was the coffee. Good orange juice.

We have been traveling for two weeks in Paris and Israel and in that time have had great, and at times, exceptional meals. That is until last night, November 6, 2018.
My husband and I had a late lunch, so we just wanted something light. Saw some light fare on their posted menu and thought we would try it. When we entered the place the desk and the "waiter/greeter" are in the back of the restaurant. The "greeter" saw us and ignored us, finally motioning at a table. He brought the menu. This should have been a clue...his shirt was on inside out, droopy pants, and in general disheveled. We ordered a club sandwich with ham (yes, ham, this is Armenian quarter) and fries, and a turkey sandwich no fries. They were put on pita bread and grilled, kind of a panini. My husband's club just looked like a ham sandwich. Both sandwiches the meat looked like processed meat. My husband's fries were oily, limp, and tasteless. He bit into one, it tasted terrible, so he left the rest. Before we arrived at our hotel we both had heartburn.
I used the bathroom, and there were three empty toilet paper rolls (That is why one should carry wipes when traveling).
The bill came to 104NIS, $28. When my husband handed his credit card the man said it was cash only. We did not see anything outside or on the menu noting cash only. Plus, the man did not inquire about our meal, especially considering the serving of fries were still untouched.
There are way too many restaurants in Jerusalem (We have been here three times, so we have been to many) to waste your hard-earned money at Samara.
