Owner description: This enormous palace was the Imperial residence of Ottoman sultans for almost 400 years. Although much of the palace is not accessible, the daily tours of the Harem are of great interest to tourists.

Topkapi Palace used to be house of Turkish emperors and the ruling class. You can now walk around inside the Palace and visit the Museum. Do not miss the jewels, weapons, and harem halls.

The queue for tickets is very long. You may expect waiting for at least half an hour. The palace was beautiful but nothing really astonishing when compared to other museums. We may skip this place if really run out of time in Istanbul.

A huge fortress with many surrounding gardens dotted with great old oak hallow trees. The gardens are carefully cared for and must look amazing during summer. I came at the start of spring and the lovely scents from newly planted flowers was amazing.

Highlights were the relics of Prophet Muhammad and famous blue mosaic walls. The Al-Quran is recited 24-7 within a special complex and clearly delineate the importance of the treasures this complex hold for public viewing.

Not forgetting the breathtaking views of the Bosporus and the Golden Horn. Our tour guide said on good days, visitors may even catch dolphins frolicking in the straits!

The Topkapi Palace is the biggest and one of the most popular sites to visit in Istanbul. It was built in between 1466 and 1478 by the sultan Mehmet II.
The Topkapi Palace is in the Sultanahmet neighborhood near Eminonu in the Old City area, and is open daily between 09:00 – 17:00 except on Tuesdays. During the summer period it has longer opening hours (until 19:00 usually) and might be open 7 days a week, depending on the high tourist request. The museum is closed to visitors in the morning of the first day of religious holidays. Currently, the admission to the palace costs 40 TL for adults and another 25 TL to the Harem.
