Never been to a mosque first experience there it was nice and learning why it’s blue and how it works inside. It was pretty empty from what I heard that it’s usually is.
My wife and I went to Istanbul on a trip organized by the Road Scholars organization. Regardless of all the research we did before the trip we were amazed by the beauty of the city and the variety of things to do there. Obviously seeing the numerous mosques, including the well known Blue Mosque, is highly advised however the museums are certainly worth visiting as well, especially the Istanbul Modern Museum of Art. We were very impressed with the Road Scholars group and their professional guides who made our trip so rewarding. Their planning and daily guidance was welcomed in as much Istanbul is a very large city with many neighborhoods to experience.
A mosque where one can visit outside of prayer time
It was a quick trip to have a look at the historical mosque
It was a little crowded but we managed to have a Quick Look and leave
We were with our travel leader, and he offered to get us into the Blue Mosque even though it wasn't on the itinerary. We all jumped at the chance. Unfortunately, it was extremely busy, but we decided to go for it. We had limited time because the mosque closes during services, and we only had about 45 minutes to get through the line and see the mosque. It is required to cover your head if you are a woman, so we donned our scarves and removed our shoes. It was hard to take any photos as the mosque was so packed. I would love to be able to see it without so many people crowded in.
Breathtaking interior!
We went late morning in November and had no issue with queues or crowds.
Well organised with easy access and exit
