Stayed in the presidential suit for 3 nights on this property on a personal visit. The deal was providing value for money if you manage to get a promo offer from one of these sites.

1. Location is very convenient and there are a variety of commuting methods are available till late into the night. Also you can get many options for the food nearby and there’s a massive supermarket just across the road for the grocery and medicine if there’s a requirement.
For those who need an idea of the location to decide- this a good 1 hour minimum away from the airport. And this is not in the heart of Colombo as the GallFace. But if you are willing to stay little further away and drive to city, this location will serve you well.

2. Rooms were well appointed. They were clean and neat. I’m not sure of the other room categories, but the presidential suite was enough for two adults and two kids if you want to share a room. Beds , pillows and all amenities were ensuring and good night sleep ( for me it was all that mattered )
Also the wifi provided was really good , as good so you can watch Netflix

3. Breakfast was descent in all standards and included in the room rate. The restaurant is on the 4th floor and served by very hospitable staff. The staff is very helpful and will assist with all your needs.

4. The most important factor is though this is on the main High Level Road, the rooms are extremely soundproof. I’ve had bad experiences with hotels by highways before, but this property amused me. Once you are into your room, you wouldn’t differentiate between this and a hotel on the mountain tops Also the property was cleaned for any sign of pollution unlike most hotels by main roads.

All in all it was a very good stay and highly recommend

The reason for not giving the 5th star is due the shower-over-jacuzzi. It was very inconvenient and not suitable for elderly or kids. Also during my stay the jacuzzi wasn’t properly fitted and maintained resulting in wobbly surface and dismantled handrails.
Also the presidential suite was missing out on few minor touches like tissue boxes, watchable channels on TV, adequate floor mats ( like by the bed), room freshner ( the room and surrounding were smelling of old Laundry), a proper place to sit and eat , etc. I’m sure these can be addressed easily to get the property “ Five star ready “ . Good luck !

We stayed one night in the Richmond House. We arrived at the Colombo international airport and booked a transfer to the hotel. A taxi driver picked us up and brought us to the hotel in around 40 minutes. The room had plenty of space and was clean. The staff was very friendly and helped us with our questions. In the morning we had a nice breakfast with egg toast and fruits.
We can totally recommend the Richmond House for your stay in Colombo.

This house is really stunning even though it’s in a slight state of disrepair.
We were given a tour and information from a knowledgeable lady working at the house on the afternoon of our visit.
The style is certainly not typical of the area - you could be at an English country house. The views from the top floor are beautiful.
The past grandeur of the house is evident in its beautiful staircase and grand hall that still houses events. A Christmas Tree was still up from a children’s party in March. There’s also a dorm where children stay at the house.
The gardens are amazing.
Entrance charges very reasonable. Lovely bit of history in Kalutara.

The hotel is located up in the hill, with a very nice view on the valley. Clean and spacious rooms, nicely decorated. Very nice and helpfull staff with tuk tuk service. Only small regret : no restaurant terrasse to enjoy a beer with a view (eventhough balcony in the rooms).
