This hotel is comfortably situated in the heart of the Old Quarter. There are plenty of spas, a lake nearby, and plenty to walk around and see.

Flower went above and beyond and really helped us. She called to book massages, gave us a map of the area with great recommendations for restaurants and things to do, booked our travel to and from Halong Bay, and even held our luggage while we were on tour. She also gave us tips on how to navigate the area which were quite helpful.

The breakfast was good as well. They had a mix of western food as well as Vietnamese food, including good pho. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

We found the Calypso Grand Hotel through the reviews on Trip Advisor. It seemed to be a good fit for our needs . We made our reservations for 7 nights via e-mail and a telephone conversation with Linda Nguyen, the manager. The hotel is located on the western edge of Hanoi's Old Quarter. The location proved to be excellent as it was close enough to walk easily to all the Old Quarter attractions and restaurants but on a bit quieter street than some of those in the heart of the area. We arranged transportation from the airport and back through the hotel. I checked other sources and confirmed the cost was reasonable. The check in process went well and Flower , who was extremely helpful during our entire stay, provided tea and helpful information on the hotel and the area. We booked a junior suite which was roomy and had a small balcony overlooking Cu'a Dong Street. The 3rd floor room was decorated in the red and white style the hotel favors. The room was clean and spacious with ample storage for clothing. The bathroom was sufficient and the shower worked fine. We also found the bed to be comfortable and were not bothered by outside noise when sleeping. Breakfast was either buffet style or additional choices from a menu with both Western and Vietnamese options. The dining room staff (Irene and others ) were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast very good. We broke our stay into two parts while we did a cruise on Halong Bay and Linda was helpful in holding our excess bags for us the night we were not there. We checked out at that point and paid our bill for the first two nights . When we returned Linda pointed out that they had mistakenly not credited us for our one night deposit and corrected the error. We appreciated her honesty. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful with information, directions and restaurant recommendations. That includes Linda, Flower, Cindy, Irene and the young bellmen. They did recommend some possible day tours and attractions, however, there was never a hard sell on anything. All in all, the value of the comfortable ,clean room and the extremely helpful staff made the Calypso Grand Hotel the first place we would seek reservations were we to return to Hanoi in the future. A great value in the Old Quarter.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd and 4th floor probably quieter. Balconies in junior suites are a good add.

I booked this hotel based on reviews here on Tripadvisor.

The location of the hotel is in the old quarter and is a 10-15 minute walk to the lake/ night markets, a 20 minute walk to the HCM Mausoleum and a 15 minute walk to the citadel. There aren't too many restaurants in the area, but there are a few local eateries surrounding the hotel. There is a nice local noodle shop across the road. Price was about AUD $6. There is a really good day spa in the same street, a pharmacy and a Vinmart.

The attention to customer service is what makes this hotel stand out from the rest. All the staff here are friendly and do an excellent job. I requested a room change and after speaking to the staff was moved straight away. The staff is knowledgeable about the local area and are willing to help customers with enquiries about tourist information.

Breakfast is good, with a nice choice of eastern & western choices.

I stayed in a Superior Double, and there is no externally facing window for the room. The room did have a window, but it faced the hallway. But in saying this, don’t be put off about booking such a room. The room itself was spacious, with a room safe, TV and a PC provided for your use. Bathroom was spacious. The rooms are very quiet, spacious, crisp and clean.

I would easily stay there again, and highly recommend this establishment to anyone visiting Hanoi and wanting to stay in a comfortable hotel, that prides itself on its customer service and friendliness of staff.

Room Tip: Rooms on first level are very noisy!

Staff were incredible and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was generous with both western and traditional options available. The room was very spacious and decorated nicely. Bed was very comfortable - two pillows as opposed to one would be nice although I'm sure had we requested this it would have been done instantly. There was some mould around the bathroom shower recess tiles which could use a bit of bleach but the room was immaculately clean and fresh and relatively new. In the middle of the bustle of the old quarter so once you have your bearings, everything is within walking distance. The staff are just wonderful.

This lovely little hotel was a real find. I stayed here a few days ago with my husband and son and it was faultless. The welcome is super friendly and you are greeted with a welcome drink. They cannot do enough for you. We dealt mostly with Linda and Flower who were both fabulous, but the boys on the reception desk were smiley and helpful too. The staff's assistance made getting round Hanoi very easy and the hotel is very well placed in the Old Quarter. Breakfast is a buffet but there are additional hot choices at no extra cost. The rooms are very quiet, spacious, and crisp and clean. The room had been tidied already by the time we had finished breakfast! Very impressed with that. Highly recommend this place as a great base when visiting Hanoi.
