Owner description: We are very proud to bring the first elephant sanctuary to Koh Samui in Southern Thailand. Set on 10 acres of forest land, we offer a retirement home for elephants who have worked exhausting hours in the logging and tourism industries. Feed, walk with, and observe our gentle giants as they roam, socialise, bathe and enjoy a peaceful life that they so deserve. Join our morning or afternoon program knowing you are supporting ethical elephant tourism and helping to make a difference.

Any self respecting animal lover would do well to visit the elephant sanctuary on Samui. There are rare affordable opportunities to see elephants in the wild and so a sanctuary is the next best thing. Samui Elephant Sanctuary is a remarkable place in that the Thai family who own the elephants were the first people to bring elephants to Samui for human entertainment. Even more remarkable is that due to the kindness of Sangdeaun Lek Chailert, the founder of Save Elephant Foundation, this Thai family was flown to Elephant Nature Park (ENP) in Chiang Mai to learn that elephants can thrive if allowed to be as natural as possible. Amazingly this beautiful family embraced a radical change in the way they managed their elephants and decided to open a sanctuary based on what they learned. Even though this was against their families historical culture and that of many of their peers on Samui. They have gone out on a limb and it's working. The mahoots have learned that through love and compassion their 'wards' can live happy joyous lives and that people will come and see them do that. They learned that you do not have to bully elephants for tourists to see something happen and that people are more than happy to stand in the shadow of these majestic animals and quietly observe.
I've visited this sanctuary twice and it brings joy to the soul to see these magnificent creatures enjoying the 'freedom' they now have. They can never return to the wild as their trauma runs deep and they would not survive. But you can hear their joy and see their contentment . The staff at the sanctuary are lovely and under the guidance of Ry from ENP they are learning fast so that they will be able to be self sustaining and manage the park themselves. It's exciting to have been twice already and seen the transformation over a couple of months as the elephants settle. I'd highly recommend anyone to visit as it's a chance to get up close and personal to one of creations most sensitive and beautiful animals.

An amazing experience for everyone. We got to feed the elephants, walk with them and watch them acting naturally all on their terms. It is so vital to support a place that doesn't exploit these magnificent animals. No chains, seats or bull hooks, just happy, healthy elephants enjoying life....just as it should be.

They picked us up at the cruise terminal and drove us to the sanctuary. It was an fantastic experience. We fed the elephants, followed them around, watched them play and just enjoy themselves. The babies were especially cute. Later, as we were watching them in the pool and mud pit (they love their mud pit) we were brought cold coconut juice. When we were done we fed the coconuts to the elephants. They LOVED them. We were then served a wonderful buffet lunch. Everyone is so nice. The place is great. GO.
