It is a great place to stay in Bangkok, right on the river, incredible pool and spa facilities, but it is showing its age. The rooms are spacious but laid out in an odd fashion, with a hallway that separates the room from the bathroom and closet areas. The decor also strikes, as my wife put it, of colonialism, lots of dark wood and oversized furniture, corridors are dark and imposing. This may seem snobbish but the hotel is directly next to what looks like a slum area, shacks and hollowed out former industry, we overlooked this from our room. Surprised a developer hasn't bought up that land to put another luxury property. That said, we had a lovely stay, service was excellent, I wish we could eat the buffet breakfast every day of the year, especially the fresh tropical fruits and juices. Enjoyed having cocktails in the River Bar outdoors overlooking the river at night. Overall, it's a nice hotel but I would explore other options if I'm in Bangkok again.

They seem to read your mind.
I left my laptop open and some fingerprints showed on the screen. Voala, a plastic sealed silk cloth was left on top of the keyboard. This is just an example. Interpolate to other significant details in your day and it adds up.

We happened to be here during a Hindu wedding. Spectacular.

And the pool is a tranquile oasis after a hectic day of visiting temples.

This hotel belongs in your bucket No. 1.

The first time I stayed at this hotel was 17 yrs ago, loved it and still do! The service was impeccable (except for the Thai restaurant but more on this later). Even though the room is exactly the same as 17 yrs ago, it was for the most part very well kept up. There were a few tell tail signs of aging like the bath tub but everything worked and the beds were very comfortable! There are boats that take you either to the Mandarin Oriental, the Peninsula Dock or the main dock on the other side of the river. The breakfast buffet had a variety of american, Thai and Lebanese options. The pool is just the right temperature and also has great service. There is a lifeguard on duty and was of great help when my son got a minor cut. The only thing I would not recommend is going to the Thai restaurant. I could not believe the terrible service! They never brought my food and then said I hadn’t ordered but then I asked for a Diet Coke and got a regular coke and my husband ordered a coconut ice cream that never arrived. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Dear Imchpt,

Greetings from the Peninsula Bangkok!
Thank you very much for your valuable feedback and your time. We are pleased to hear that you are a very loyal Peninsula Bangkok guests. Thank you for commenting so positively about our breakfast and the pool area. I will thank the lifeguard in person for taking so good care of our valued guest. Service is very important to us, that is why we are even more concerned about your comment about Thiptara our Thai Restaurant. The Service in Thiptara is usually one of the best within our hotels restaurants. Khun Sitthichai the Thai Restaurant and myself will investigate further regarding your comments. Thank you very much for alerting us.
The Peninsula Bangkok is looking forward welcoming you back soon in our beautiful property.

Best wishes,

Fantastic location with a really handy free ferry service that saves you lots of time and ultimately money.

With a wide range of restaurants, a few bars and the obligatory buffet there is sure to be something that you find to your taste. The pool is also really well laid out, with lots of lounges and cabanas scattered around. Gym is well equipped, as is the sauna and steam room complete with icy plunge pool.

Rooms are a good size, well equipped, but in ours many of the items were damaged or "tired". Same in our friends room. Separate dressing room, with everything that you come to expect. Bathroom was typically large with his "n" hers vanities, good shower and separate bath. The enclosed lavatory however, didn't have an extractor fan...

The only thing that I could really fault was the inconsistency with the attitudes of the staff. Some were amazingly helpful, polite, fun and engaging. Others (like the chef in morning) at the buffet was just downright rude. At odds with most of them, but for the 4 days that he was working when we were there he didn't change his approach.

Peninsula Hotels are arguably some of the best in the world, and this one gets close to that standard, but just misses out.

Room Tip: Ask to go higher. They will move you up the building of you ask.
