As we had eaten very well at the brunch before Christmas, we decided to have an Easter Brunch at Movenpick again. Together with our embassy staff we made reservations to have a wonderful time. The buffet was wonderful and for every taste there were excellent diches. Meat, fish, salads and a desert buffet which was really outstanding.
There, unfortunately, were a few points which made the whole experience a bit not so great. First there was the temperature. After about 15 minutes the temperature did rise to an unacceptable level. After complaining twice it got a little better but it stayed to warm to really enjoy the meal. I really hope that in the future this is going to be better, because then we have to seek another hotel to have our Sunday brunch and we would regret that very much.
Also the wine list. I think it is rather strange to have supermarket wines (Shoprite) on a wine list of a five star hotel. I am gladly to pay 120 GHS, but rather not for a wine you can buy a the local supermarket for 26 GHS.

It is no surprise to me to see the bad rating on Trip Advisor of this restaurant with a nice decor located within one of the very best hotels in town.

I have eaten here many times as I am also a regular client of the hotel and I don't always feel like getting a car to eat out.

Most of the food is buffet, even if there is an à la carte option but no better tastewise:they can't even cook a steak properly on an evening when the restaurant was basically empty. Buffet is certainly plentiful but the taste is not there. Food is bland, even the Ghanaian dishes (well-kept secret, Ghanaian food is certainly the best African astronomy) and most of it is the same every day.

It is obvious that the problem here relates to management or should I say to lack of management. Most surprising there is no Maitre D (there has never been one except possibly for a couple of months many years ago!) and if F&B management very occasionally come in, they just ignore clients. even worse for the chef. As it is always good to compare similar things, at this hotel's main competitor the Kempinsky only a few hundred yards away, the assistant F&B manager, a very nice Frenchman who graduated from the top hotel university in the world (Lausanne) is always around, checking food, talking to clients and truly managing his staff: no surprise, service is perfect and food much better.

Are the waiters bad? No, they are polite and they smile but this part of the world does not have any history of 5 star hotels and no good training schools and no university in hotel and restaurant business, so with no management staff does not know what to do. To be fair, I found out on several occasions that 2 members of the restaurant staff went out of their way to assist clients, namely Emmanuel and Rosamonde but two in such a large place is not enough!

Last but certainly not least, the wine list is appalling: the choice is terrible, obviously made by somebody who does not know anything about this topic, and the prices, even for Ghana, very high. I am certainly not expecting a wine list as in Paris or New York but at least as in the other good restaurants in town.

On the contrary, service in the rooms is perfect: easy to understand the difference: the 2 managers of rooms Nadja and the always smiling and so efficient Isaac are, one or the other, always around.

It is amazing to see that the top management of the hotel never tries to improve the restaurant as the negative comments have been posted for years.

From the moment we step into the restaurant, we were greeted by very friendly staff. The variety of food on offer was amazing. Local and international cuisines are on offer.

The buffet had a selection of options but the service leaves a lot to be desired. We had to wait a really long time to get the bill after we had finished eating

True, it's great ambience coupled with excellent service & wonderful variety of menu, makes this restaurant the best in the town.

The venue was perfect for our so called 'Business luncheon meeting'. The buffet was complete, with so much to 'Veg platter' for vegetarian like me.

The presentation of the menu, the salad section and also the desserts give a comprehensive offering to taste buds :)

The service is par excellent and makes 'sankofa' as a professionally managed and well run, luxury restaurant in Accra.

A must visit restraunt in Accra.
