My wife and I had a fantastic shopping experience with the help of Rachid. He was fluent in English and was very knowledgeable. I strongly recommend this location.

They take you in a room and seduce you with teas and creams. They verbally quote this prices as "one euro" and up to "25 euro". We were quoted "56 euros" for our bag, and they charged us 560 euros. They added an extra zero. We didn't realize it until we received our credit card statement and we were out of the country. It is robbery, plain and simple.

Hard to believe this was once a luxurious palace with walls and ceilings adorned with gold leaf! It's now little more than a shell, having been destroyed and ransacked less than 100 years after completion. No guided tour here, which meant we strolled round in the warm sunshine, oblivious to some of the significant parts of the site, although I did eventually notice some small information boards dotted around. If you have limited time here, make sure you climb up to the area above the main entrance gate, where there are fantastic views over the city. From here too, you can see numerous storks on messy nests perched high on the palace walls. The day we visited was warm and hazy, + there was no sign of the Atlas Mountains that you should be able to see from Marrakech. Or was there? I took a long shot, zoomed right in…..and there they were in all their snow-capped glory!

This really is a wonderful place to explore and incredible value for money. We spent several hours at the site exploring the grounds and various ruins of quarters both above and below ground, all the while keeping an eye on the storks nesting on the high walls. The entrance ticket also gives you access to a photography and art gallery which is well worth exploring. You can also buy a second ticket (for the same price as the entry ticket) to enter the room holding a 12th Century minbar which, though impressive, was not a particular highlight of the day. However please do not miss out on the view from the tower - it's worth visiting just to see that!

Look out for locals offering to show you the way to the spice market. They may take you to this local shop where the owner will try to sell you spices at unbelievably high prices. Everyone is very nice about it, but in the end, if you are not aware of the prices for each item or spice, you may get taken. The customer service is fabulous, but getting cheated on the price may be part of your shopping experience.
