While walking through this part of Medina, saw the sign to this Riad. Walked along narrow lane which created interest, motivating to read the reviews of the Riad & its restaurant. Reviews glorified this restaurant, so booked. During booking process asks which of 4 mains you wish: fish tagine, lamb cous cous, lamb tagine with prunes, dates, almonds, chicken tagine with preserved lemons. Selected 3rd.
Arriving into the Riad, taken through some rooms, great looking pool, then into the dining room
1st course, soup, a bit tasteless like having thick broth with vege ingredients. 2nd course was a chicken pastella tasted good although just a bit sweet. 3rd course: 7 different salads/veges:roasted sweet peppers, roasted tomatoes slightly sweet, puréed eggplant, chopped picked carrots too vinegary, diced beetroot, diced turnips in slight sweet sauce, & puréed sweet potatoe. Plus Brivates -- similar to Chinese spring rolls (best part of the meal 3 each)! All this without choice.
Main course selected lamb tagine which seemed to be a cut of shoulder of lamb, slow cooked on the bone!
Sweet/desert was a dish of sweetened style cream sitting on top of thin pastry.
Wine list only 3 options, all Moroccan, only 1 beer choice.price including 2 glasses of red Moriccan wine = 64€.
There is a distinctive difference between expected European cuisine & what one experiences in Moroccan & middle east cuisine. The latter revolves around more of salads, eggplant, chick peas, carrots, veges! Be aware lamb cutlets thin, most cuts of beef tough! Service was excellent, music by 2 musicians good b'ground. Bit disappointed in the flavour of the dishes. By Moroccan standards it was adequate, not outstsnding!
