This is a beautiful road. The scenery and lush flora are exactly what you imagine when you think 'hawaii'. The road itself is fantastic and would be perfect for a motorcycle or convertible. Anyone who says the road is too narrow has never been to Italy lol, it's perfectly fine, and we were in a big SUV. If you're at all afraid, don't be.

There are plenty of great stops along the way, but be sure to do some research and write down the mile markers; there isn't always signage.

I would give 6 stars if I could. Be aware this is a whole day activity if you drive the whole way, which we did, on the way to hiking the Pipiwai Trail. Also, make sure you like driving because it is all hairpin turns and one lane bridges. So worth it though. Many waterfalls to check out. Just such a beautiful drive. Have a full tank of gas when you start out and CASH. We ate along the way but everything is cash only. Also, there’s no cell phone service either but there are emergency phones along the road if someone had an emergency.

This drive is nothing short of spectacular! I think it’s best done in a convertible because you won’t be going more then 15 miles per hour on this road. It is very bendy road with curves every few feet and tons of one lane bridges/sections of road so be prepared to stop and back up a bit. The traffic was light when we went but I could see it being very busy at peak times. It took about 4-5 hours to get to the 7 sacred pools and back. If you aren’t a fan of curvy roads or get car sick I wouldn’t recommend this. I don’t get car sick and I almost threw up by the end of it.

It’s amazing to drive with the top down and hear all the birds chirping as you drive through a rain forest.

Not for people who get car sick, but worth every minute of the drive otherwise. Amazing waterfalls and beaches and foliage and hikes and everything. Doing this makes you feel like you are in the real Maui. We would hike down to the waterfalls and jump in and bask in the peacefulness of it all. Amazing landscape. Don't leave Maui without doing this trip.

The road to Hana was our favorite activity in Maui. With a convertible car, that trip was certainly our highlight. We highly recommend you download the ‘Gipsy Road to Hana’ app. It will guide you for the most significant sites to stop and see. It will tell you stories, ledgers snd history.

The town of Hana is not the destination of this attraction. It is the drive itself that is the attraction. Don’t miss the little town of Ke Ana on the way to Hana. Stop by waterfalls for a quick hike. Or stop by for cold coconut water. No matter what, it is a whole day trip that will take a minimum of 6 hours from Kaanapali or Wailea.
