When visiting beautiful Guatemala, you MUST visit Tikal National park!!

There's a lot of ruins to visit and take pictures of. The views from the ruins are breath taking.

I suggest you take plenty of water, carry a light backpack, wear sunblock and comfortable clothes as well.. It can be hot and humid.

Before entering the park, there's a little stand that offers drinks and snacks you may purchase.

Around 4:30pm or 5pm you begin to hear the animals get louder as they begin to come out and eat.

Fun and unique experience!

Loved Tikal, great tour guide, really terrific time. jWe were part of a fairly large group that included young people to us oldsters. The morning started at 4 a.m. dark and cold, but there was a lot of enthusiasm to see the monuments at sunrise. Everything but the sun cooperated. There was a fairly dense mist in the valleys below Tikal #4, where we waited with cameras ready. Eventually we got peeks of the monuments, but the real treat was the tour through the area with a great experienced guide, who's English was excellent and his knowledge was extensive. We saw animals from hooter monkeys (boy are they loud!!) and tarantulas to fire ants.

Bring good shoes for the hiking (it was very slippery on some parts of the tour) and make sure you have water, as the trail gets hot very soon after sunrise. You'll want sun screen and bug spray, but don't need electronics except a camera.

Jose Luis Morales was our tour guide for Tikal. We did both a sunset and sun raise tour both were amazing this was due in part because of Jose impressive knowledge. HIs knowledge base covered a wide range of information from: the ruins, the architecture ,Mayan culture, the spiritual impact, the horticulture and the jungle environment. I would highly recommend hiring him for a tour.
