Shabby but not chic

Review of Jeremiah's Inn
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 9, 2019via mobile
A good down to earth Backpacker type hostel with friendly staff. Our room was clean but shabby. Wash basin tap was awful it looked as if it was encrusted with barnacles. Room was so hot during the day but cooled off at night with the fan on. We had the door open and fan on to start with when we first got back to our room early in the evening. At an extra price there are air conditioned rooms.

Over all a good quiet place right on the sea front not far from the Split.

This guest house offers private rooms with bathroom for up to two people each. It is lead by a small family with two children, which gives it a special charme. Everything is cleaned and they can help you out with everything you need. A sympathetic contrast to an otherwise very artificial island.

They saved us from Bella's. Perfect budget hotel!

Imperfect mattresses and pillows, scant kitchen accommodations, get a.c. if you can't deal with heat, but some of the nicest folks on the island.

Location is perfect, Wi-Fi was good and I'll be sure to get their numbers so I can reserve for next trip.

The good; cheapest accommodation we could find in Caye Caulker for a double room. Great location near the top of the island and right next door to grocery stores and restaurants. While small and shared, the shower was the hottest water I've experienced on our entire trip. I really appreciated the option of having a hot shower. Wifi was fast, but worked best outside of the room (be sure to ask for the password tho).

The ok; our room was very basic. While it was cozy for the 2 of us, it was also very hot and only had a fan which kind of just blew around the hot air. The mattress was pretty uncomfortable. Also the staff and owners are hard to get a hold of some days, but when they were there, very friendly, helpful and accommodating.

The less than ok; the kitchen is barely a kitchen. Sand floors and only a single burner attached to a gas tank. No utensils, but they do have a microwave and fridge. And being right on a main stretch of Caye Caulker, it occasionally got very loud when people got a bit roudy at night.

But essentially, we had a nice stay at Jeremiah's and I would recommend it if you are traveling as a couple on a budget. Next time I will splurge for air conditioning.

Hey, on an island where everything is overpriced, this place is as sane as it gets for private rooms. Needs a little TLC, sure, but for simple, cheap rooms it's hard to beat. It's right on the beach, over a supermarket, no discos nearby at night. This is a place for crashing, no frills.

I do not agree with half of the things said on the last review, but it may depend on which room you are in or your expectations.
The beds were ok, 5/10 for pillow & bed comfort. I slept fine but I was really tired when I slept so that helped.
Hot or cold showers yes. But the shower head sprayed every direction so you barely got any water pressure on you.
Fan was enough with the weather in January.
A lot of things needed repair but it was liveable. Like the faucets are loose, showerhead issues. Drip from ceiling in bathroom sometimes. Rust on drying bars in bathroom. But to me, these things are minor and can be overlooked with the budget friendly cost.
Location was perfect. Staff are very nice.
I agree with the review on it being indoor camping.
If you are open minded & looking for a cheap, prime location, stay here!
