Check in was very quick and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a ground floor room which was lovely, clearly newly decorated. The bed was huge and very comfortable, the room was very clean. The coffee machine was good or you could make a coffee, tea etc in the lobby with greater choice. We were very impressed by the hotel and would definitely stay again.

I stayed as this hotel during a recent solo trip to Napa. And since hotels there are seriously overpriced I decided to try this one. Holiday Inn Express American Canyon is located about 15 minutes drive from downtown Napa, slightly away from everything in Napa or Sonoma vallies. Guessed that's why they can keep their price low. Still there's a couple of small shopping plazas nearby as well as a walmart supercenter.

The hotel was under renovation and I had to walk to the other side of the building to check in. Still my first impression to this hotel was positive. From my experience, many hotels at this level, at least in Northern California, are operated by tired amateur front desk staff, but every staff I met in this hotel were professional and nice. They also have two elevators on site while most similar hotels would only have one. This can make a huge difference during peak hours. My room was pretty large, and the soundproofing was above average. The room was simple and clean. It was equipped with HDTV, mini-fridge, microwave oven, free wifi and amenity goods. You can't really ask more for a 2.5 star hotel. However It also felt a bit empty as everything was packed toward the corner. There was no dressing table or working desk in the room, just a small utility table with a couple of chairs. The choice of TV channels were limited though most HBO channels were available. The air conditioner was a bit loud but acceptable.

The breakfast was slightly below my expectation but a free meal is a free meal. A simple outdoor pool was available though nobody was using it at this season. Overall speaking It's easy to like this place even though it's not perfect. It's operated by people who care about their property, and the price is pretty good in this expensive area. If you are able to drive there safely after spending a day in Napa (and don't need to impress your partner) give it a try.

We stayed here after Garberville (which is not normal). My mind was obviously still in shock because I can't remember much about this hotel. I am sure it was good and clean and good for sleeping in which satisfies the requirement "be a hotel". Also the area was normal and we were here to visit Napa Valley. American Canyon is not as expensive as the various valleys but really quite close. We were able to do a balloon ride at Yountville, ride the Wine Train from Napa, eat in lovely restaurants whenever and wherever we chose. Also went to Muir Beach (I think that's right) and generally drove around. And walked a bit.
I would recommend a trip to this area and this hotel is a fine base to start from.

The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly, especially with local restaurant recommendations. The hotel room was clean, but the aesthetics were a bit "tired". However, they are remodeling soon, so it likely will improve. Overall, I would stay here again.

Two night here before leaving California. Clean, very comfortable beds. Very friendly, helpful staff. Good security and facilities were perfectly sufficient.
Breakfast was the weakest thing about the hotel. You won’t go hungry, all a bit processed, but that seems to be part of the Holiday Inn template.
