Dark, dingy and rundown

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 18, 2024
We stayed here for a three-day weekend to attend a local graduation, and it was a huge mistake. We were given the handicap room, even though no one in our party needs assistance. It’s obvious they gave us what was leftover. The bathroom situation was completely unacceptable. The sink is in the bedroom so that you keep awake anyone who might be sleeping on a different schedule than you. Because the shower is a handicap shower, the whole shower/toilet room got soaked. We asked for more pillows and towels (to accommodate the wet floor from the shower), and we got a really bad attitude and ended up in a negotiation over how many pillows were acceptable! But the worst part was how dark and dirty our room was. Barely any lighting. I had to use my flashlight app to see what was in my suitcase. Technically, we were on the second floor, but we were really in what felt like a basement apartment looking up with almost no natural light and looking out at a transformer. It was so dark and dingy. The mattress on the pullout bed is incredibly thin. We finally asked to be moved out of the room and were told no, they were at full capacity. So, we suffered through, but yuck. I’ve had bad hotel experiences, but this takes the cake. Will never stay here again.

great location in DC for waking as well as hopping on the metro
very nice staff, excellent breakfast buffet, well kept common area
our pull out couch was a bit worn with a very thin mattress that didn’t matter to a younger kid but it likely would to a teen or adult.
the pool area was clean, well stocked with towels and full all the time….quite joyful overall

Bonus was a NASA office across the street with an short interactive exhibit in the lobby

no onsite restaurant so you need to get delivery, or go out. the restaurant next door is just okay but does not have pizza despite the signage

use the mini kitchen equipped with 2 electric burners, and a microwave along with a full size fridge and a dishwasher. dish soap to get you started included

we noticed there was a laundry room in the pool fitness center area

we’d stay again!

We should have chose any other hotel. Seriously. Tiny, tepid hot tub. Rude front desk staff. Cave-like room. Very little nearby. No restaurant. Mediocre free breakfast with tons and tons and tons of people. Don’t make the same mistake we did – there are many many other nice hotels in DC.

We got bedbugs at this hotel. When I reported to the manager that my daughter was covered in bites, we were dismissed. The manager said that we must have brought them in and asked where we had come from. We drove from our home in CT and most certainly did not bring in the bugs. They took out all our things to be "cleaned". They dumped 5 trash bags full of our belongings into our room - a couple of the items were burned. We were very disappointed by their response to this traumatic event. I wrote to higher-ups about this horrible situation and never heard back. It was disturbing and handled extremely poorly.

The hotel is clean and in a good location. Metro is about 3-4 minute walk. The front desk staff and overall staff were very friendly and professional.
The breakfast has all of your hot and cold needs. I just wished they serve different things everyday, but they didn’t. Maybe switch one or two items, but that was it. We spent 6 days there and it was basically the same every day.
Also rooms need a makeover. Furniture, bathroom and overall the room need an update and that’s the reason I give it 4 stars. For the price paid, I thought the room was not as upscale. I stayed at other residence inns in the past and this one is the least “attractive”.

Room tip: My kids used the pool, it was warm, but crowded

Arrived at 2 pm to see if we could check in or get the key to garage to park our car. We had a conference around the corner at the Grand Hyatt. We were told the hotel had an emergency. Odd - the family next door checked in. People were coming out of the elevators. Everything looked fine. We were told we had to be relocated to a Fairfield on NY Ave (not in a safe location ) 4.5 miles away. She said the room would be comp’d.
We explained this would not work for us - that we 1- needed to be within walking distance ( so we could come and go in between meetings and quickly get ready for evening dinner plans ). The Fairfield is over 30 minutes away (with traffic on NY ave maybe more - we know the area well ) We were dismissed by the front desk manager - Julie Amonte. We found a room on the app for the JW Marriott (much closer and safer area). Julie explained she called and they did not. So to verify - We called and they did.in fact have a room for $200 more than we paid.
She simply did NOT want to accommodate us and then asked us to leave. We said we were not leaving, that her solution was not acceptable. Long story short - she called the police to remove us. We had to book a room at a Hilton property (but at least close to us)
We were never told what the emergency was (because there wasn’t one) and she refused to give us the name of her supervisor.
Completely unprofessional. Upon further investigation of other traveler reviews - this hotel is notorious for “relocating “ their one night guests to the Fairfield on NY Ave.
Let’s just say - I have deleted my BONVOY app. Unacceptable service. I am a frequent business traveler and my business was not valued
