First time at this historic building for 1st of it's kind live boxing, and it's quite an experience! Excellent professionally friendly valet parking for $20, A for not having to add the stress of looking for parking at this busy venue. Good street music & dancers nearby was enjoyable, ticket purchase, search, & Pat down was fast & appreciated. Pay extra online for fast entry BUT make sure you know if your tickets are standing only, reserve seating, or ringside. We paid $20 extra per ticket for reserved seats on either side of the floor or upstairs.
It was a large event with 9 awesome artful displays of boxing talent with several TKO battles. Pro Lamont Peterson & brother Anthony graced the stage for our pleasure & Backyard full band filled the stage and rocked their craft. Yes, it was packed, drinks overpriced & drafts flat, witnessed a few tacky incidents but after some growing pains, this woman owned event has all the potential for entertainment greatness...WELL DONE LADIES, u scored a debut KO, A+ for Awesomeness!!! Waiting for #2...c u there!!

When purchasing tickets for the Sweet Spot event we knew there would be a difference between VIP tickets and general tickets. According to the website, the VIP people would be given a pre-show and roped off from the general tickets. This is not how this is done. The VIP ticket holders are allowed to enter the building, the general admission ticket holders are required to wait outside (in the freezing cold, might I add) until the pre-show is over (this takes about an hour). The show itself was good, although it was less than what I was expecting as far as an adult show goes. I feel like there was more dedicated to selling the drinks than anything else. The drinks were extremely overpriced, even for a theatre. I don't think we would go again.

This was FIRST and LAST experience with The Howard Theatre! If I could give negative stars - this venue would definitely get a negative star rating. I attended the Layla Hathaway event onn Friday June 9th and the set up for this concert was totally inappropriate for the genre of music and the age group of the audience.

Layla Hathaway would fall under Jazz, easy listening genre. So the atmosphere and ambiance is relaxed, grown-up crowd. More a super club where people would pay to sit, eat dinner, drink, and enjoy Layla's performance.

This venue got it ALL wrong!!! First, there was not enough seating for the concert goers. They had the nerve to remove all the tables on the main floor area resulting in practically zero seating for general admission ticket holders. That type of set up could be understandable for a different genre (hip hop, Go-Go, reggae) but totally inappropriate for this event.

Many folks who I spoke to that had attended events at the Howard Theatre previously were shocked that all the tables were removed on the main floor. If they were going to do that they should have made it clear that general admission tickets would be standing room only.

Second, they failed to plan for elderly attendees, or those with handicap or wheelchair accessible needs. So many folks stood in line outside the venue only to finally get in and find EVERY table "reserved for VIP" with standing only for the general ticket holders for the ENTIRE performance. Again this should have been made very clear at the time of ticket purchase.

The other thing that was totally disrespectful to the customers were that servers were told to insist that patrons close their tab and pay immediately after ordering. When asked the reason. The server we had admitted that the venue wanted to prevent folks from leaving before paying their tab. Not only was that offensive but it confirms why the Howard Theatre has the type of reviews it does. You don't treat customers that way.

At one point they received so many complaints from furious patrons that they started wheeling out chairs for people to sit on in the main floor area during the performance in a poor attempt to rectify the situation! It was the most unorganized and worst treatment I have ever experienced. I will definitely NOT be back!!!

The concert was 5 stars! Lalah Hathaway is an awesome and amazing singer! Her band and DJ were awesome and amazing as well! The bad was Howard Theatre! We paid for assigned seating and a bail and switch happened when we walked in. The assigned floor seating was not in place as advertised when we purchased our tickets online. Was told it was first come first seating. Wow! Why advertised that option when it's indeed a lie! People that paid for that option was highly upset and valid to be! When advertising a option to sit follow through vice false advertising! Most customers left once they heard that they had to stand vice sit! Bad business tactics!
