Beginning to end, this was a great experience. First things first: the hotel is clean. Every corner is attended to in terms of cleanliness, and this is a big deal these days. So I lead with that.
The parking attendants are quick and attentive, and the valet system (online with texting to call for your car) works better than any I've used in a long time. Parking is expensive, like in any big-city location, but this is offset by unlimited in/out privileges for the valet parking.
The room was beautiful. Plenty of space (getting out of one bed on one side was a little tight, but not unmanageable), HUGE bathroom for a city hotel, great view (we had an upgraded room with a river view). And it was also quite clean. Beds are comfortable. There is a refrigerator but it's full of mini-bar items (terribly expensive even by mini-bar standards...), and when you remove the mini-bar items to put in your bottled water from the local store, your bill gets hit with the stuff you took out (some kind of cool automation there). So just be aware of it. I went to the desk and they took those charges off the bill.
The location is really cool. Far enough from center of the city to be less traffic, but still only a few minutes' drive to the most important things to see in town, for a sightseeing trip. Lots of restaurants, bars, and sights in the wharf area, giving something to do at the end of the day. Attached building has a pharmacy/grocery store for incidentals, snacks/drinks, and other emergency stuff.
We didn't eat at the in-property restaurant; it's a specialty place, southeast Asian, didn't really have the kind of thing we were looking for. I understand room service is quite good, although that was second-hand info from other hotel guests. I'd like to see additional options on property, but note that within a five minute walk there are restaurants serving French, Italian, Irish-pub fare, and a variety of other choices.
The people--my expectations for the Intercontinental brand are pretty high, but the people at this location exceeded those expectations at every turn. Friendly, available, honest, and helpful.
Kudos to the staff and management of this location for maintaining such high standards. When we return to the DC area, I doubt we'll even look elsewhere.
