This museum is amazing with information and emotionally-charged experience. However, it just can't handle the crowds. We were packed in like sardines in the C3 section of the history level. The C2 section wasn't a lot better. Because of this, we were unable to read and appreciate much of the exhibit. It seems like it's a bit too much information for the average person to absorb. As I've read the other reviews, it is like a book; one needs about 10 hours to take it all in. It is also was like a maze with exhibits going off in all directions. There is no coherent organization to this--you go on one side or another, missing half of the artifacts unless you double back. Other museums stagger the times so it's not so crowded. The totality of African American history is enormous. I think that it could have been whittled down a bit to allow a person an emotional experience in 2-3 hours--certainly not to lessen the affliction and pain of black Americans. The Holocaust Museum succeeds in this. The African American experience is one that all Americans should understand. Please don't make it so very difficult and tedious. Thank you in advance for the generic response, museum manager.

Easily hosted our large group for after hours dinner and drinks. Beautiful architecture with food and drink stations on two levels. Traffic to get here was difficult at 6:00 though. Really good food!

I have visited this museum twice now. The first time I spent 2 hours on the top floor. It wasn't possible to get to the lower floors since I had arrived late in the day. On my recent visit, I was able to visit the lower concourses. I've grown up with stories of the Middle Passage, slavery, segregation, etc., but the museum still did justice to the experiences of people who lived through them. Some chaperones on my trip said they cried as they made their way through the exhibits-- the experiences of African Americans was done justice here. Food tip-- this is said to be the best food on the Mall.
