Was very nice to be able to walk around the fenced area and take it all in. Thought the FDR house was a more impressive building from out side. Nice area to walk. If you want tour contact your congressman long before so you as a taxpayer may get to go in to the people’s house, cause it’s the only way in!, (same with capital and printing and engraving). Typical Washington bureaucracy, oh it’s the “people’s house” all around but don’t let you in! All lip service, an no substance! Sorry for rant but don’t know if be back, would have been nice to see.

Thank ejcen

It is an amazing place to visit. Be prepared to go through multiple security stations and you can not bring bags or purses with you. You can only visit a few rooms starting in the East Wing and it is all self guided.some of the security guards would tell you about the room, it would have been helpful to have someone in each room to tell about the amazing art work and antiquics in each room. Be sure to schedule the tour well in advance of you visit.

This was the highlight of our trip. Though the White House is smaller than we thought it was, still beautiful! Loved all the trees in bloom and we got to see some of the South Lawn Easter Egg Roll which was very cool!

You will find lots of people there taking a photo! People sitting there protesting too. They told us that before a couple of years one could approach the White House nearer!

If you can plan ahead and contact your congressman - House of Representative better to contact as opposed to your your state senator - mine being Chuck Schumer who did not even acknowledge our request - for a tour of the White House is well worth the effort. It is a self tour of the East Wing. Be sure you carry only only a small purse or small outside bag if you will be carrying anything with you - to large you will not be allowed into the White House. You go through 4 check points, but after all this, it was great being able to visit and take pictures. A memorable experience. Also you can take photos of the grounds. Without the tour you can take photos of the front and also the back but only at a distance.
