Description: Cafe Cortado is located on the Picton waterfront with beautiful views over Queen Charlotte Sound and Picton marina. We have spacious outdoor and indoor dining areas. Our a-la-carte menus include fresh nz seafood including our delicious creamy seafood chowder and our very popular seafood platter. We use free range chicken and eggs in our menus and everything is cooked from scratch. We are the restaurant of choice for our local community for breakfast, lunch, dinner, pizzas, tapas as well as our wine and beer selection.

That’s true. For lunch I had the caesar salad which was a large serving and very filling. The waiter was a student but very good and happy to share tips for walks and got us a map.
For dinner we shared tapas and they were divine. The chicken one melted in my mouth and the Brazilian cheese bread things were scrummy.

Went here for arrival early dinner as still slightly jet lagged. Staff were friendly and efficient . I had a small seafood chowder which was delicious and a coke. It was packed with few tables available obviously popular

We just had coffees and scones here so I can not comment on the food served here. The coffees were only luke warm and slopped into the saucer when delivered. The waiter said he would bring us clean saucers but he didn't return. The scones were fresh and enjoyable.

We decided to go into cortado on valentines night with no booking. We were uncertain if we’d get a table on such a busy night, but the young manager said he’d squeeze us in if we were happy to have a read of the menu while he sorted something. He promptly found us a table and explained the menu, how there service blocks work (so awesome) and then showed us a special cocktail list for the night. We settled on 5 tapas. And the manger helped me find a drink to suit my taste. I was taken aback by the service of this restaurant and will be a regular. It was a pleasure to watch the staff work, they had excellent guidance from such a young man. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

We booked for an early casual Valentine’s Day dinner for 2 adults and a pre-schooler, and had a lovely time.
The cafe has a nice ambience, clean and plenty of seating, both indoor and out, without feeling cramped.
Our waitress was lovely and put us at ease (we later found out it was her first night, never would have guessed). She gave our kiddo an activity sheet and some crayons and took our drinks, then food orders, promptly, and explained their service device, which when positioned for service, ordering, bill, etc, gives your server an alert on their wristband.
There was a good selection of non alcoholic drinks. We ordered 3 tapas dishes - buttermilk fried chicken, ceviche, and lemon pepper calamari, along with a large salad. The kiddo had chicken strips with shoe string fries and a flamingo drink (a pink soda spider). Our food arrived promptly and was great - excellent balance of flavours, and the calamari and chicken were both tender. The salad was huge and had just enough dressing (so often there is too much I find). I haven’t had ceviche in awhile and we are not a huge seafood people, but found it beautifully balanced, a little spicy, a little sour, a little sweet, with some coriander coming through, and not too much red onion. We got some ice cream sundaes and churros for dessert. A busy night for the staff but they handled it like pros, well done team! We’ll be back when we’re next in Picton.
