Staff Friendly, Needs a Facelift

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 28, 2020via mobile
The food was tasty and well presented, although the menu choices were limited. Staff were friendly and the service speedy. The place is up for sale, hence the need for a makeover which I am sure it will benefit from.

We spent a couple of nights here over New Years. The room was very good for a pub stay. A single balcony wraps around all rooms. There was no room service menu but the hosts couldnt have been more helpful, providing a chilly bin and wine cooler for our snacks. Big comfy bed and adequate en suite. The Grand Hotel has tab, pokies and a nice beer garden. If there was one small negative, a bar fridge in the room would have been awesome. Overall, a very enjoyable stay.

Went today thinking it would be a more family friendly place to eat, 1st of all they charged us for our glasses of water which tasted disgusting and the price of food wow, definitely won't be going back, I would of had a fizzy drink if I knew they charged for water

A 70's style hotel with surprisingly good food, a step back in time with yesteryear charm and staff to match. A good selection of beers and wine and TV screens to watch the sport if you want plus easy parking out of the main township.

We recently dined in The Grand Hotel Restaurant, one of our regular dinner venues in Akaroa, and again we were treated to excellent service, a very good choice of meal options, and very well prepared and presented meals. There is also a good range of wine and beer choices, as well as non-alcoholic drinks. We have never had a bad food experience at the The Grand, and would unreservedly recommend it.

Room tip: My experience is with the restaurant only, and I have not seen the guest rooms. The Grand Hotel is a historic building in Akaroa.
